Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for monitoring light emissions in electronic devices. The disclosed techniques herein provide for determining a display duration of display devices for a user. Light emission profiles for each of the display devices are determined. A cumulative emissions exposure is determined that is based on the light emission profiles for the display devices and the display duration of the display devices for the user. A determination is made whether the cumulative emissions exposure exceeds a light emission exposure limit set for the user. In a positive determination, an instruction is transmitted to the display devices for execution of a remedial action based on predefined rules.

Claims (45)

1 . A method comprising:

in response to tracking a user's inputs on a first electronic device over a first display duration, calculating a first light emission exposure count based on the first display duration and a first light emission profile associated with the first electronic device;

in response to tracking the user's inputs on a second electronic device over a second display duration, calculating a second light emission exposure count based on the second display duration and a second light emission profile associated with the second electronic device;

calculating a cumulative light emission exposure count; and

in response to determining that the cumulative light emission exposure count exceeds a light emission exposure limit, transmitting an instruction to the first electronic device and the second electronic device for execution of a remedial action, wherein the remedial action is based on a predefined rule.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein calculating the cumulative light emission exposure count further comprises:

requesting from the first electronic device, the first light emission profile; and

requesting from the second electronic device, the second light emission profile.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first light emission profile and the second light emission profile are determined via photometric measurements.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first light emission profile and the second light emission profile are determined via radiometric measurements.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein calculating the cumulative light emission exposure count further comprises:

determining a predefined ratio of the first light emission profile to the first display duration; and

determining the predefined ratio of the second light emission profile to the second display duration.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the remedial action comprises powering off a display of the first electronic device and the display of the second electronic device for a predefined time period.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the predefined time period is selected by the user of the first electronic device and the second electronic device.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the instruction to the first electronic device and the second electronic device for execution of the remedial action comprises:

transmitting a notification to the user on the first electronic device to switch to an electronic device with a lesser light emission profile; and

transmitting the notification to the user on the second electronic device to switch to the electronic device with the lesser light emission profile.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

in response to detecting the user's inputs on the first electronic device and the second electronic device:

determining the user has not switched to the electronic device with the lesser light emission profile; and

shutting down the first electronic device and the second electronic device for a predefined time period.

10 . A system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

in response to tracking a user's inputs on a first electronic device over a first display duration, calculate a first light emission exposure count based on the first display duration and a first light emission profile associated with the first electronic device;

in response to tracking the user's inputs on a second electronic device over a second display duration, calculate a second light emission exposure count based on the second display duration and a second light emission profile associated with the second electronic device;

calculate a cumulative light emission exposure count; and

in response to determining that the cumulative light emission exposure count exceeds a light emission exposure limit, transmit an instruction to the first electronic device and the second electronic device for execution of a remedial action, wherein the remedial action is based on a predefined rule.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry configured to calculate the cumulative light emission exposure count further comprises control circuitry configured to:

request from the first electronic device, the first light emission profile; and

request from the second electronic device, the second light emission profile.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first light emission profile and the second light emission profile are determined via photometric measurements.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first light emission profile and the second light emission profile are determined via radiometric measurements.

14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry configured to calculate the cumulative light emission exposure count further comprises control circuitry configured to:

determine a predefined ratio of the first light emission profile to the first display duration; and

determine the predefined ratio of the second light emission profile to the second display duration.

15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the remedial action comprises powering off a display of the first electronic device and the display of the second electronic device for a predefined time period.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the predefined time period is selected by the user of the first electronic device and the second electronic device.

17 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry configured to transmit the instruction to the first electronic device and the second electronic device for execution of the remedial action comprises control circuitry configured to:

transmit a notification to the user on the first electronic device to switch to an electronic device with a lesser light emission profile; and

transmit the notification to the user on the second electronic device to switch to the electronic device with the lesser light emission profile.

18 . The system of claim 17 , further comprising control circuitry configured to:
