Abstract

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a display including a plurality of pixels, and a processor, each of a plurality of pixels may include a plurality of sub pixels, the plurality of sub pixels may include first type pixels including first type sub pixels observed at a first viewing angle, and second type pixels being adjacent to the first type pixels and including second type sub pixels observed at a second viewing angle that is smaller than the first viewing angle, and the processor configured to, for a plurality of groups including first type pixels and second type pixels, perform a control such that turn-on ratios of the first type pixels and the second type pixels in, a plurality of groups, a first group are different from turn-on ratios of those of, among the plurality of groups, a second group that is different from the first group.

Claims (24)

1 . An electronic device comprising:

a display comprising a plurality of first type pixels and a plurality of second type pixels, a first type pixel of the plurality of first type pixels observable at a first viewing angle, and a second type pixel of the plurality of second type pixels observable at a second viewing angle being narrower than the first viewing angle; and

at least one processor configured to:

in a first mode, display a screen with the first viewing angle by emitting of the first type pixel and emitting of the second type pixel, and

in a second mode, display a screen with the second viewing angle narrower than the first viewing angle by emitting of the second type pixel and, by controlling turning off the first type pixel or by controlling the first type pixel to emit within an adjusted gradation value range,

wherein the display comprises a shield layer including shield member portions and opening portions, and

wherein the first type pixel comprises a plurality of first type sub pixels, no shield member portion of the shield layer overlaps an area between the plurality of first type sub pixels such that the first type pixel is observable at the first viewing angle, and

wherein the second type pixel comprises a plurality of second type sub pixels, a shield member portion of the shield layer overlaps an area between the plurality of second type sub pixels such that the second type pixel is observable at the second viewing angle being narrower than the first viewing angle.

2 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first type sub pixels consist of a red sub pixel, a blue sub pixel and two green sub pixels and the plurality of second type sub pixels consist of a red sub pixel, a blue sub pixel and two green sub pixels.

3 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first type pixels and the plurality of second type pixels are alternately disposed.

4 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the shield layer includes a first opening portion aligned to the first type pixel and a second opening portion aligned to the second type pixel, and a first width of the first opening portion is larger than a second width of the second opening portion such that the first viewing angle of the first type pixel is wider than the second viewing angle of the second type pixel.

5 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the display further comprises a pixel definition member surrounding each of the plurality of second type sub pixels and an additional shield member disposed between the shield layer and the pixel definition member surrounding each of the plurality of second type sub pixels.

6 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first type pixel is controlled to display a light within the adjusted gradation value range in the second mode such that a contrast ratio of the first type pixel operated in the second mode is lower than a contrast ratio of the first type pixel operated in the first mode.

7 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is configured to drive the display in one of the first mode and the second mode.

8 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first mode includes a general mode, and the second mode includes a private mode for restricting a light emission angle.

9 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein at least two of the plurality of first type sub pixels have different sizes.

10 . An electronic device comprising:

a display comprising a first type pixel observable at a first viewing angle, a second type pixel observable at a second viewing angle being narrower than the first viewing angle, a shield layer including shield member portions and light transmission portions, and a pixel definition member surrounding the second type pixel; and

at least one processor configured to:

in a first mode, display a screen with the first viewing angle by controlling emitting of the first type pixel and controlling emitting of the second type pixel, and

in a second mode, display a screen with the second viewing angle by controlling emitting of the first type pixel and controlling emitting of the second type pixel, the first type pixel being controlled to display a light within a reduced gradation value range,

wherein the first type pixel is controlled to display a light within the reduced gradation value range in the second mode such that a contrast ratio of the first type pixel operated in the second mode is lower than a contrast ratio of the first type pixel operated in the first mode,

wherein the first type pixel comprises a plurality of first type sub pixels, no shield member portion overlaps an area between the plurality of first type sub pixels, and light from the second type pixel is emitted with the second viewing angle limited by a portion of the shield member portions, such that the second viewing angle is narrower than the first viewing angle, and

wherein an additional shield member is disposed between the shield layer and the pixel definition member surrounding the second type pixel.
