Abstract

A device includes a controller configured to activate an application on the device, present a cognitive test through the application. The cognitive test includes a plurality of sub-tests including at least two of a typing accuracy and speed test, a speech slurring test, a reaction time test, a depth perception test, and a puzzle test. The controller is configured to determine whether the driver passed each of the sub-tests based on inputs received from the driver, and determine whether the driver is drunken based on results of the sub-tests.

Claims (40)

1 . A device comprising:

a controller configured to:

activate an application on the device;

present a cognitive test through the application, wherein the cognitive test comprises a plurality of sub-tests including at least two of a typing accuracy and speed test, a speech slurring test, a reaction time test, a depth perception test, and a puzzle test, wherein the plurality of sub-tests included in the cognitive test are based on a driver profile associated with a driver, and wherein the driver profile comprises information about one or more sub-tests that are unsuitable for the driver based on attributes of the driver;

determine whether the driver passed each of the sub-tests based on inputs received from the driver; and

determine whether the driver is drunken based on results of the sub-tests.

2 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sub-tests includes the speech slurring test, and the controller determines whether the driver passes the speech slurring test by analyzing a speech wavelength pattern of at least one input of the inputs.

3 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sub-tests includes the reaction time test, and the controller determines whether the driver passes the reaction time test by comparing a reaction time of the driver with a threshold time.

4 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein to activate the application is based on one or more of activation by a user, time analysis, geolocation sensing, or a current condition of the driver.

5 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein in response to activating the application, the controller is further configured to notify the driver about the cognitive test.

6 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to receive an input from the driver indicating that the driver is not able to take one of the sub-tests.

7 . The device according to claim 6 , wherein in response to receiving the input indicating that the driver is not able to take one of the sub-tests, the controller is configured to present an alternative sub-test.

8 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein in response to determining that the driver is drunken, the controller is configured to lock a vehicle and provide a ride share request, an emergency call, or both.

9 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to compare an input of the driver in the cognitive test to a threshold value obtained from a database including data for sober drivers and data for drunken drivers.

10 . A method for identifying a drunken driver comprising:

activating an application on a device;

presenting a cognitive test through the application, wherein the cognitive test comprises a plurality of sub-tests including at least two of a typing accuracy and speed test, a speech slurring test, a reaction time test, a depth perception test, and a puzzle test, wherein the plurality of sub-tests included in the cognitive test are based on a driver profile associated with a driver, and wherein the driver profile comprises information about one or more sub-tests that are unsuitable for the driver based on attributes of the driver;

determining whether the driver passed each of the sub-tests based on inputs received from the driver; and

determining whether the driver is drunken based on results of the sub-tests.

11 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the plurality of sub-tests includes the speech slurring test, and the method further comprises determining whether the driver passes the speech slurring test by analyzing a speech wavelength pattern of at least one input of the inputs.

12 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the plurality of sub-tests includes the reaction time test, and the method further comprises determining whether the driver passes the reaction time test by comparing a reaction time of the driver with a threshold time.

13 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein to activate the application is based on one or more of activation by a user, time analysis, geolocation sensing, or a current condition of the driver.

14 . The method according to claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving an input from the driver indicating that the driver is not able to take one of the sub-tests; and

presenting an alternative sub-test.

15 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein in response to determining that the driver is drunken, and the method further comprises locking a vehicle and providing a ride share request, an emergency call, or both.

16 . The method according to claim 10 , further comprising comparing an input of the driver in the cognitive test to a threshold value obtained from a database including data for sober drivers and data for drunken drivers.

17 . A system of identifying a drunken driver, the system comprising

a vehicle including a sensor; and

a device comprising:

a controller configured to:

activate an application on the device;

present a cognitive test through the application, wherein the cognitive test comprises a plurality of sub-tests including at least two of a typing accuracy and speed test, a speech slurring test, a reaction time test, a depth perception test, and a puzzle test, wherein the plurality of sub-tests included in the cognitive test are based on a driver profile associated with a driver, and wherein the driver profile comprises information about one or more sub-tests that are unsuitable for the driver based on attributes of the driver;

determine whether the driver passed each of the sub-tests based on inputs received from the driver; and

determine whether the driver is drunken based on results of the sub-tests.

18 . The system according to claim 17 , wherein:

the vehicle transmits an instruction to the device in response to the sensor detecting a predetermined condition of the driver; and

the controller activates the application on the device in response to receiving the instruction from the vehicle.

19 . The system according to claim 18 , wherein the sensor is disposed on a steering wheel, and the predetermined condition is a sweating condition of the driver.

20 . The system according to claim 18 , wherein the predetermined condition comprises a predetermined eye condition of the driver, a predetermined body temperature of the driver, a predetermined heart rate of the driver, or combinations thereof.
