Abstract

Penile implant and system comprising such an implant. The penile implant comprises a number of features which improves the function of the penile implant, e.g. a certain surface structure and portions with specific functions.

Claims (20)

1 . A penile implant for curing erectile dysfunction, adapted to post-operatively be adjustable, the implant comprising:

at least one expandable section comprising a hollow body configured to receive a fluid for expanding the expandable section, wherein said implant is adapted to be adjustable between a first collapsed state, in which said expandable section is collapsed, and a second expanded state, in which said expandable section is expanded, and

an adjustment device for non-invasively adjusting the implant by expanding the expandable section, wherein

the hollow body is at least partially pre-filled with a material occupying space in the hollow body while allowing expansion of the expandable section.

2 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the hollow body is at least partly filled with a foam material.

3 . The implant according to claim 2 , wherein the foam material comprises closed spaces or compartments containing a gas.

4 . The implant according to claim 2 , wherein the foam material comprises open spaces that can be filled with said fluid for expanding the expandable section.

5 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the hollow body is at least partly filled with a foam material.

6 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the hollow body is at least partly filled with a solid material.

7 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the expandable section at least partly comprises a surface structure having elevated areas alternating with lowered areas.

8 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the expandable section is adapted to have, in said first collapsed state, a first distance between adjacent elevated areas sufficiently extended to prevent growth of fibrotic tissue from directly interconnecting adjacent elevated areas to an extent that compromises the adjustability between a first collapsed and a second expanded state of said implant, said first distance being greater than 1.0 mm.

9 . The implant according to claim 1 , further comprising a fluid adapted to be received in the expandable section to bring said implant into said second expanded state.

10 . The implant according to claim 7 , wherein said alternating elevated areas and lowered areas are distributed over said outside surface of said implant so as to facilitate said implant assuming a specific shape when expanded.

11 . The implant according to claim 10 , wherein the alternating elevated areas and lowered areas cover a larger part of one side of said implant, than of an opposite side of said implant.

12 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the adjustment device comprises a hydraulic device having an implantable hydraulic reservoir, which is hydraulically connected to the expandable section, wherein the expandable section is adapted to be non-invasively expanded by manually pressing the hydraulic reservoir.

13 . The implant according to claim 1 , further comprising a wireless remote control for non-invasively controlling the implant adjustment device.

14 . The implant according to claim 1 , further comprising a wireless energy-transmission device for non-invasively energizing implantable energy consuming components of the implant with wireless energy.

15 . The implant according to claim 1 , further comprising a feedback device for sending feedback information from inside the patient's body to the outside thereof, the feedback information being related to at least one of a physical parameter of the patient and a functional parameter related to the implant.

16 . The implant according to claim 1 , wherein the adjustment device comprises a hydraulic device comprising an implantable hydraulic reservoir, which is hydraulically connected to the expandable section, and a pump for pumping fluid from the implantable hydraulic reservoir to the expandable section for non-invasively expanded the expandable section.

17 . The implant according to claim 1 , further comprising an implantable accumulator for storing energy.
