Abstract

A firearm or firearm retrofit assembly may include a compensation assembly to receive gas expelled from a muzzle of a barrel or an egress in a length of the barrel. The compensation assembly may include one or more gas flow-directing sections to tune the flow of gas through the compensation assembly, which may reduce recoil. Other embodiments may be disclosed and/or claimed.

The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the exterior surface of the barrel includes at least one flat face, and wherein the at least one part includes a part with an axis, and with a circular cross section, taken perpendicular to said axis, in which a curved face corresponding to the circular cross section contacts the at least one flat face when the at least one part is installed.

14 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one part includes a linearly or rotatably drivable part, and 1) a portion of the linearly or rotatably drivable part, or 2) the opening, is located forwardly of a vertical plane, the vertical plane perpendicular with a bore axis of the barrel, the vertical plane coincident with a rearmost portion of the one or more gas ports.

15 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one body exposes the rotational drive interface.

16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the at least one part comprises a rotationally driven part, wherein the rotationally driven part includes a head end or another end, wherein the exposed rotational drive interface is part of the head end or the other end of the rotationally driven part.

17 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one part includes at least one feature to produce counter force to resist post-installation loosening and preserve the binding engagement.

18 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one part comprises a self-retaining part.

19 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the rotatable drive interface is located on a terminal end of the at least one part.

20 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more gas ports redirect, or vent, the output gas into the atmosphere.

21 . An apparatus, comprising:

a barrel with an exterior having at least one discontinuity thereon;

at least one body including one or more gas ports to redirect, or vent, gas output from the barrel; and

the at least one body including an opening to receive at least one part, the at least one body configured to guide a portion of a length of the at least one part against the at least one discontinuity when said at least one part is 1) linearly inserted into the opening in the at least one body, and 2) is then driven axially, using a rotatable drive interface, into a binding engagement with at least one surface of the at least one discontinuity non-cylindrical portion or recess, the binding engagement to persist until released by a user during an uninstallation of the at least one part; and
