Abstract

A heat protective sleeve includes a body being a sleeve extending along a longitudinal direction, and comprising a triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) structure between an inner diameter of the body and an outer diameter of the body. The TPMS structure has open spaces in communication with ambient air at the outer diameter of the body, and the inner diameter of the body is configured to contact a surface adjacent to the inner diameter. A strip extends along the longitudinal direction on a portion of the body. The strip is a same material as the TPMS structure, and the material of the strip is solid and without holes through it.

Claims (33)

1 . A heat protective sleeve comprising:

a body being a sleeve extending along a longitudinal direction, the body having an inner diameter and an outer diameter and defining a central opening bounded by the inner diameter, and comprising a triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) structure between the inner diameter and the outer diameter, the TPMS structure having open spaces in communication with ambient air at the outer diameter, the inner diameter configured to be positioned over an exterior surface of an underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter; and

a strip extending axially along the longitudinal direction of the body, the strip being a same material as the TPMS structure, being solid and without holes, and having a width in a circumferential direction of the body that is equal or greater than a radius of the inner diameter.

2 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the exterior surface of the underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter is a firearm.

3 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the exterior surface of the underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter is an exhaust pipe.

4 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein a thickness of the body is between the inner diameter and the outer diameter, and the thickness of the body is 3.2 mm to 12.7 mm.

5 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the TPMS structure comprises a gyroid geometry.

6 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the TPMS structure comprises a polymer including polyamide, cyanate ester, epoxy, or acrylate.

7 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the TPMS structure comprises a ceramic including silicon carbide (SiC), zirconia (ZrO 2 ), alumina, porcelain, aluminum titanate, or silicate.

8 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein:

a wall thickness of the TPMS structure is constant in the longitudinal direction throughout the TPMS structure or varies in the longitudinal direction throughout the TPMS structure;

a wall thickness of the TPMS structure is constant in a radial direction throughout the TPMS structure or varies in the radial direction throughout the TPMS structure; or

a unit cell size of the TPMS structure is constant throughout the TPMS structure or varies in one or more portions of the body, or along an entire heat protective sleeve.

9 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , further comprising a fastener, the fastener configured to removably couple the body to the exterior surface of the underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter, and selected from an endcap, screw, magnet, hook and loop, clamping device, thread, wire, strap, cord, cord clamps, ribbon, lace, or tie.

10 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the strip is located on the inner diameter, the outer diameter, or between the inner diameter and the outer diameter.

11 . A heat protective sleeve comprising:

a body being a sleeve extending along a longitudinal direction, the body having an inner diameter and an outer diameter and defining a central opening bounded by the inner diameter, the body having open spaces between the inner diameter and the outer diameter, the open spaces in communication with ambient air at the outer diameter and the inner diameter, the inner diameter configured to be positioned over an exterior surface of an underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter; and

a strip extending axially along the longitudinal direction of the body, the strip being a same material as the body, being solid and without holes, and having a width in a circumferential direction of the body that is equal or greater than a radius of the inner diameter.

12 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 11 , wherein the exterior surface of the underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter is a firearm.

13 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 11 , wherein the exterior surface of the underlying object adjacent to the inner diameter is an exhaust pipe.

14 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 11 , wherein the body comprises a triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) structure.

15 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 14 , wherein:

a wall thickness of the TPMS structure is constant in the longitudinal direction throughout the TPMS structure or varies in the longitudinal direction throughout the TPMS structure;

a wall thickness of the TPMS structure is constant in a radial direction throughout the TPMS structure or varies in the radial direction throughout the TPMS structure; or

a unit cell size of the TPMS structure is constant throughout the TPMS structure or varies in one or more portions of the body, or along an entire heat protective sleeve.

16 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 14 , wherein the TPMS structure comprises a gyroid geometry.

17 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 14 , wherein the TPMS structure comprises a polymer including polyamide, cyanate ester, epoxy, or acrylate.

18 . The heat protective sleeve of claim 14 , wherein the TPMS structure comprises a ceramic including silicon carbide (SiC), zirconia (ZrO 2 ), alumina, porcelain, aluminum titanate, or silicate.
