Abstract

Folded digital cameras comprising a lens system with a lens and an image sensor, the lens having N≥6 lens elements L i , an effective focal length (EFL) and a total track length (TTL), wherein each lens element has a respective focal length f i and wherein a first lens element L 1 faces an object side, and an optical path folding element (OPFE) for providing a folded optical path between an object and the lens. In some embodiments, the lens system has a focusing range that covers object-lens distances from infinity to a minimal object distance (MIOD), wherein MIOD/EFL is smaller than 20 or even 7. In some embodiments, the ratio of a maximal chief ray angle to a field of view of the folded camera Max CRA/FOV is smaller than 0.25 or even 0.15 when the camera is focused at infinity.

Claims (33)

1 . A folded camera, comprising:

an optical path folding element (OPFE) for folding an optical path from a first direction to a second direction;

an image sensor; and

a lens including N≥6 lens elements (L i ) and having an effective focal length (EFL) and a total track length (TTL), a first lens element (L 1 ) facing an object side and a last lens element (L N ) facing the image sensor,

wherein the lens system has a focusing range that covers object-lens distances from infinity to a minimal object distance (MIOD),

wherein MIOD/EFL<20,

wherein the EFL is in the range of 10 mm-30 mm,

wherein the lens elements are divided into a first object-sided lens element group (G1) and a second image-sided lens element group (G2),

wherein G1 and G2 are separated by a big gap (BG) larger than TTL/8, and wherein the folded camera has a f number (f/#)<2.5.

2 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein BG is larger than TTL/7.

3 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein BG is larger than TTL/6.

4 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein N≤8 lens elements.

5 . A folded camera, comprising:

an optical path folding element (OPFE) for folding an optical path from a first direction to a second direction;

an image sensor; and

a lens including N≥6 lens elements (L i ) and having an effective focal length (EFL) and a total track length (TTL), a first lens element (L 1 ) facing an object side and a last lens element (L N ) facing the image sensor,

wherein the lens system has a focusing range that covers object-lens distances from infinity to a minimal object distance (MIOD),

wherein MIOD/EFL<10,

wherein the EFL is in the range of 10 mm-30 mm,

wherein the lens elements are divided into a first object-sided lens element group (G1) and a second image-sided lens element group (G2),

wherein G1 and G2 are separated by a big gap (BG) larger than TTL/8, and wherein the folded camera has a f number (f/#)<3.

6 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein 3.33≤MIOD/EFL.

7 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein the EFL is in the range of 12.5 mm-17.5 mm.

8 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein G1 includes 2-5 lens elements.

9 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein G1 and G2 move relative to each other for focusing the folded camera.

10 . The folded camera of claim 9 , wherein G2 moves away from the image sensor and towards G1 for the focusing.

11 . The folded camera of claim 9 , wherein G1 and G2 also move with respect to the image sensor for the focusing.

12 . The folded camera of claim 11 , wherein a relative movement between G 1 and G 2 is smaller than a relative movement between G 2 and the image sensor.

13 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein one or more lens elements are cut lens elements.

14 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein TTL/EFL<1.25.

15 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein a ratio of a focal length (f N ) of L N and the EFL fulfils f N /EFL<1.

16 . The folded camera of claim 1 , wherein the folded camera is included in a mobile device.

17 . The folded camera of claim 16 , wherein the mobile device is a smartphone.
