Abstract

A communication apparatus includes a first communication unit that communicates with a terminal apparatus using a first communication method, a second communication unit that communicates with a server apparatus using a second communication method different from the first communication method, a reception unit that controls receiving update information from the server apparatus in a case where the communication apparatus can communicate with the server apparatus via the second communication unit, an update unit that performs an update process for updating the communication apparatus using the update information, and a progress management unit that controls transmitting a progress status of a process regarding the update information to the terminal apparatus.

Claims (46)

1 . A system in which a mobile terminal communicates with a communication device, the system comprising:

a first wireless communication interface configured to establish a communication between the mobile terminal and the communication device;

a second wireless communication interface configured to establish another communication between the mobile terminal and the communication device;

a third wireless communication interface configured to establish a communication between the mobile terminal and a server apparatus, the communication being a communication different from the communication and the another communication each established between the mobile terminal and the communication device; and

a fourth wireless communication interface configured to establish a communication between the communication device and the server apparatus,

wherein, in a case where a first instruction from a user is received via an operation unit of the mobile terminal when the mobile terminal and the communication device are in a paired state via the first wireless communication interface and are not connected via the second wireless communication interface, (a) new update data is downloaded from the server apparatus via the third wireless communication interface of the mobile terminal and (b) a first progress indicator indicating a progress of the download of the new update data is displayed using a display unit of the mobile terminal,

wherein, after the download of the new update data is finished, a connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface is established,

wherein, after the connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface is established, (c) the downloaded new update data is transmitted to the communication device from the mobile terminal via the second wireless communication interface and (d) a second progress indicator indicating a progress of the transmission of the downloaded new update data is displayed using the display unit of the mobile terminal,

wherein the connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface is established based on a parameter that is shared between the mobile device and the communication device via the first wireless communication interface,

wherein the first progress indicator and the second progress indicator are displayed distinguishably from each other,

wherein the downloaded new update data is data for an update of a program for controlling the communication device,

wherein, in a case where a second instruction is received from the user, when the communication device is connected to the server apparatus via the fourth wireless communication interface, (e) the new update data is downloaded from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal and (f) a third progress indicator indicating the progress of the download of the new update data from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal is displayed using a display unit of the communication device,

wherein, after the download of the new update data from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal is finished, the communication device receives an update instruction from the user, and

wherein, in a case where the update instruction is received, (g) firmware is updated using the new update data downloaded from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal and (h) a fourth progress indicator indicating the progress of the update of the firmware is displayed using the display unit of the communication device.

2 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein after communication established by the second wireless communication interface is disconnected, an update process is started.

3 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein progress is displayed as a percentage together with the first progress indicator and the second progress indicator.

4 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the displayed first progress indicator and the displayed second progress indicator are identical in figure and distinguished from each other based on strings displayed on a same screen.

5 . The system according to claim 4 , wherein the strings displayed to distinguish the first progress indicator and the second progress indicator are displayed above the first progress indicator and the second progress indicator.

6 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first progress indicator is not displayed when the download of the new update data is finished.

7 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the system is controlled to notify the user that the new update data is available, and

wherein, after notifying the user that the new update data is available, the system is controlled to receive via the operation unit the instruction to download the new update data from the user.

8 . The system according to claim 7 , wherein a notification that there is the new update data is generated using information of the communication device acquired via the first wireless communication interface.

9 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein information for identifying the communication device is displayed together with the first progress indicator.

10 . The system according to claim 9 , wherein the information displayed together with the first progress indicator for identifying the communication device is displayed also at a timing of displaying the second progress indicator.

11 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein, after the transmission of the downloaded new update data is finished, the connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface is disconnected.

12 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first progress indicator displayed by the mobile terminal and the fourth progress indicator displayed by the communication device are identical in figure.

13 . The system according to claim 1 ,

wherein the message for warning the user not to turn off a power supply is displayed on a screen on which the communication device displays the fourth progress indicator, and wherein a message for warning the user not to turn off a power supply is not displayed on a screen on which the mobile terminal displays the first progress indicator.

14 . The system according to claim 13 ,

wherein the message for warning the user not to turn off a power supply is displayed on a screen on which the communication device displays the third progress indicator, and wherein a message for warning the user not to turn off a power supply is not displayed on a screen on which the mobile terminal displays the second progress indicator.

15 . The system according to claim 1 ,

wherein a message for warning the user not to turn off a power supply is displayed on a screen on which the communication device displays the fourth progress indicator, and wherein a message for warning the user not to turn off a power supply is not displayed on a screen on which the communication device displays the third progress indicator.

16 . The system according to claim 15 , wherein the communication device is a battery-powered camera.

17 . The system according to claim 1 ,

wherein the communication device does not display a current firmware version during a period in which the third progress indicator is displayed, and

wherein, after the download of the new update data from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal is finished, the communication device displays a button for receiving the update instruction from the user and displays the current firmware version on the display unit of the communication device.

18 . A control method for controlling a system in which a mobile terminal communicates with a communication device, wherein the mobile terminal has a first wireless communication interface configured to establish a communication between the mobile terminal and the communication device, a second wireless communication interface configured to establish another communication between the mobile terminal and the communication device, a third wireless communication interface configured to establish a communication between the mobile terminal and a server apparatus, the communication being a communication different from the communication and the another communication each established between the mobile terminal and the communication device, and a fourth wireless communication interface configured to establish a communication between the communication device and the server apparatus,

the method comprising:

in a case where a first instruction from a user is received via an operation unit of the mobile terminal when the mobile terminal and the communication device are in a paired state via the first wireless communication interface and are not connected via the second wireless communication interface, (a) downloading, by the mobile terminal, new update data from the server apparatus via the third wireless communication unit of the mobile terminal and (b) displaying, by the mobile terminal on a display unit of the mobile terminal, a first progress indicator indicating a progress of the download of the new update data,

after the download of the new update data is finished, establishing a connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface,

after establishing the connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface, (c) transmitting the downloaded new update data to the communication device from the mobile terminal via the second wireless communication interface and (d) displaying a second progress indicator indicating a progress of the transmission of the downloaded new update data, wherein the connection between the mobile terminal and the communication device via the second wireless communication interface is established based on a parameter that is shared between the mobile device and the communication device via the first wireless communication interface,

wherein the first progress indicator and the second progress indicator are displayed distinguishably from each other, and

wherein the downloaded new update data is data for an update of a program for controlling the communication device, and

in a case where a second instruction is received by the communication device from the user, when the communication device is connected to the server apparatus via the fourth wireless communication interface, (e) starting, by the communication device, a download of the new update data from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal and (f) displaying, by the communication device on a display unit of the communication device, a third progress indicator indicating the progress of the download of the new update data from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal,

wherein, after the download of the new update data from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal is finished, the communication device receives an update instruction from the user, and

wherein, in a case where the communication device has received the update instruction, (g) the communication device updates firmware using the new update data downloaded from the server apparatus without being transmitted through the mobile terminal and (h) the communication device displays a fourth progress indicator indicating the progress of the update of the firmware using the display unit.
