Abstract

A system for supplementing measurement results of automated analyzers is presented. The system includes a computer device configured for obtaining a result of a measurement performed by an automated analyzer, the computer device and the automated analyzer being located within a privileged computer network, obtaining a context related algorithm associated with the result of the measurement defining one or more triggering conditions and context related information from a computer device residing outside of the privileged computer network at the computer device and processing the result of the measurement by using the context related algorithm to generate a context specific supplement to the result of the measurement at the computer device.

Claims (44)

1 . A system for supplementing measurement results of diagnostic or laboratory automated analyzers, the system comprising:

an automated laboratory analyzer connected within a privileged network;

an external computing device connected within a non-privileged network; and

a user computing device connected to the privileged network, the user computing device configured to:

obtain one or more context related algorithms from the external computing device across the non-privileged network, the one or more context related algorithms programmed with one or more triggering conditions under which context related information is generated based on analytical results of a measurement by the automated laboratory analyzer;

receive the measurement from the automated laboratory analyzer across the privileged network, wherein the measurement comprises a parameter value of a biological sample or a component of the biological sample determined by the automated laboratory analyzer by inducing a reaction of the biological sample or the component of the biological sample with a reagent;

in response to the one or more triggering conditions, execute the one or more context related algorithms, using the parameter value of the biological sample or the component of the biological sample as input, to generate statistical information associated with the parameter value of the biological sample or the component of the biological sample; and

generate a context specific supplement to the analytical results of the measurement comprising the statistical information.

2 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more context related algorithms are installed with a mobile app on the user computing device.

3 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more context related algorithms are installed as an add-on to an already installed program on the user computing device.

4 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the user computing device comprises one or more of a mobile device, desktop computer, laptop computer, smartphone, or combinations thereof.

5 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the privileged network is a hospital information system (HIS) or a laboratory information system (LIS).

6 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the external computing device within the non-privileged network is configured to be networked with a plurality of different privileged networks.

7 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the privileged network further comprises a firewall.

The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more triggering conditions comprises detecting one or more criteria for the analytical results of the measurement, wherein the one or more triggering conditions comprise one or more of detecting a threshold condition reached for one or more measurement values, a criterion determining a relationship between two or more measurement values, or detecting a pattern in a measurement result of a measurement.

9 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the context specific supplement comprises textual information.

The system according to claim 9 , wherein the textual information comprises one or more of explanatory information regarding interpretation of diagnostic laboratory measurement results, proposals regarding diagnostic steps to be undertaken, proposals regarding treatment steps, information regarding potential errors, or combinations thereof.

11 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the user computing device is further configured to:

determine a user executable algorithm associated with the measurement; and

generate the context specific supplement to further comprise the user-executable algorithm.

12 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the user computing device is further configured to:

determine diagnostic information based on the statistical information; and

generate the context specific supplement to further comprise the diagnostic information.

13 . The system according to claim 12 , wherein the diagnostic information comprises one or more of:

information indicating a compatibility of a diagnosis with the measurement, or

information indicating one or more diagnoses compatible with the measurement.

14 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the user computing device is further configured to:

determine a hyperlink linking to information associated with at least one of the measurement or the statistical information; and

generate the context specific supplement to further comprise the hyperlink.

15 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the user computing device is further configured to:

determine one or more additional measurements based on the statistical information; and

generate the context specific supplement to further comprise the one or more additional measurements.

16 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the analytical results of the measurement are processed to include a unique identifier while also free of patient-identifying information.

17 . The system according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more triggering conditions comprises reaching a numeric threshold value relating to the analytical results of the measurement.

The system according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more triggering conditions comprises one or more of detecting an analyte in the biological sample, detecting a particular waveform in the analytical results, or detecting a presence of a particular feature in an image of the analytical results.

19 . A system for supplementing measurement results of diagnostic or automated analyzers, the system comprising:

an automated monitoring device of a bodily function connected within a privileged network;

an external computing device connected within a non-privileged network; and

a user computing device connected to the privileged network, the user computing device configured to:

obtain one or more context related algorithms from the external computing device across the non-privileged network, the one or more context related algorithms programmed with one or more triggering conditions under which context related information is generated based on analytical results of a measurement by the automated monitoring device of the bodily function;

receive the measurement of the bodily function from the automated monitoring device across the privileged network, wherein the measurement comprises a parameter value of a biological sample or a component of the biological sample determined by the automated monitoring device by inducing a reaction of the biological sample or the component of the biological sample with a reagent;

in response to the one or more triggering conditions, executing the one or more context related algorithms, using the parameter value of the biological sample or the component of the biological sample as input, to generate statistical information associated with the parameter value or the component; and

generate a context specific supplement to the analytical results of the measurement comprising the statistical information.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the automated monitoring device of the bodily function comprises one or more of devices configured for monitoring heart activity.
