Abstract

A firmware management operation. The firmware management operation includes providing an information handling system with a distributed BIOS, the distributed BIOS including a BIOS component and a BIOS variable; identifying a processor environment installed on an information handling system from a plurality of processor environments; performing a processor agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation, the processor agnostic information handling system operating mode management managing an aspect of an operating mode of the information handling system.

Claims (52)

1 . A computer-implementable method for performing a firmware management operation, comprising:

providing an information handling system with a distributed BIOS, the distributed BIOS including a BIOS component and a BIOS variable, the distributed BIOS being implemented to function with any of a plurality of processor environments, each of the plurality of processor environments implementing a respective processor architecture;

identifying a processor environment installed on an information handling system from the plurality of processor environments;

performing a processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management managing an aspect of an operating mode of the information handling system, the managing the aspect of the operating mode of the information handling system being agnostic of the processor environment installed on the information handling system from the plurality of processor environments, the performing the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation being performed before initiating a call to an information handling system optimizer module, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation interacting with a processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table providing a safe secure guard between the information handling system optimizer module and an application.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the operating mode of the information handling system includes an unobtrusive mode of operation.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation uses an operation and management center security protocol.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein:

the operation and management center security protocol accesses the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table.

5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein:

the operation and management center security protocol accesses a processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer (SSL).

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein:

the processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer interacting with an embedded controller of the information handling system;

interaction of processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer interacting and the embedded controller enabling receipt of trusted calls by the operation and management center security protocol.

7 . A system comprising:

a processor;

a data bus coupled to the processor; and

a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code interacting with a plurality of computer operations and comprising instructions executable by the processor and configured for:

providing an information handling system with a distributed BIOS, the distributed BIOS including a BIOS component and a BIOS variable, the distributed BIOS being implemented to function with any of a plurality of processor environments, each of the plurality of processor environments implementing a respective processor architecture;

identifying a processor environment installed on an information handling system from the plurality of processor environments;

performing a processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management managing an aspect of an operating mode of the information handling system, the managing the aspect of the operating mode of the information handling system being agnostic of the processor environment installed on the information handling system from the plurality of processor environments, the performing the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation being performed before initiating a call to an information handling system optimizer module, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation interacting with a processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table providing a safe secure guard between the information handling system optimizer module and an application.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the operating mode of the information handling system includes an unobtrusive mode of operation.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation uses an operation and management center security protocol.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the operation and management center security protocol accesses the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table.

11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor are further configured for:

the operation and management center security protocol accesses a processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer (SSL).

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer interacting with an embedded controller of the information handling system;

interaction of processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer interacting and the embedded controller enabling receipt of trusted calls by the operation and management center security protocol.

13 . A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the computer program code comprising computer executable instructions configured for:

providing an information handling system with a distributed BIOS, the distributed BIOS including a BIOS component and a BIOS variable, the distributed BIOS being implemented to function with any of a plurality of processor environments, each of the plurality of processor environments implementing a respective processor architecture;

identifying a processor environment installed on an information handling system from the plurality of processor environments;

performing a processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management managing an aspect of an operating mode of the information handling system, the managing the aspect of the operating mode of the information handling system being agnostic of the processor environment installed on the information handling system from the plurality of processor environments, the performing the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation being performed before initiating a call to an information handling system optimizer module, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation interacting with a processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table, the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table providing a safe secure guard between the information handling system optimizer module and an application.

14 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the operating mode of the information handling system includes an unobtrusive mode of operation.

15 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management operation uses an operation and management center security protocol.

16 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein:

the operation and management center security protocol accesses the processor environment agnostic information handling system operating mode management optimized interrupt vector table.

17 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein:

the operation and management center security protocol accesses a processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer (SSL).

18 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein:

the processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer interacting with an embedded controller of the information handling system;

interaction of processor environment agnostic seamless secure layer interacting and the embedded controller enabling receipt of trusted calls by the operation and management center security protocol.

19 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer executable instructions are deployable to a client system from a server system at a remote location.

20 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer executable instructions are provided by a service provider to a user on an on-demand basis.
