Techniques to process contactless card functions in a multiple banking system environment
A system and techniques to perform functions within a multiple banking system environment utilizing switchboard routing.
1 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
reading, by a computing apparatus after entry of a contactless card into a communication field, the contactless card;
selecting, by the computing apparatus based on the read of the contactless card, an applet stored in a memory of the contactless card;
transmitting, by the computing apparatus to the contactless card, a first command, wherein the first command comprises a custom command;
transmitting, by the computing apparatus to the contactless card, a second command;
receiving, by the computing apparatus from the contactless card, a message based upon at least one selected from the group of the first command and the second command, the message comprising encrypted data and an issuer identifier, the issuer identifier associated with an issuer of the contactless card; and
sending, by the computing apparatus to a switchboard node, the received message.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the custom command comprises a command to update a file stored by the contactless card to include a nonce.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein:
the custom command comprises a command to change a state of the applet, and
the change of state of the applet comprises at least one selected from the group of a change from a dormant state to an active state, a change from a locked state to an unlocked state, and a change from a deactivated state to an activated state.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the custom command comprises at least one selected from the group of a command to change a format of a message stored on the contactless card and a command to change a format of a message generated by the contactless card.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the custom command comprises at least one selected from the group of a command to change a parameter used for a calculation performed by the contactless card and a command to transmit a certificate.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the custom command comprises at least one selected from the group of a command to change a form of authentication operation used by the contactless card.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the form of authentication comprises at least one selected from the group of a cryptographic message authentication code (MAC) operation, and a signed message with a public key certificate.
8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the second command comprises a command for the contactless card to calculate a cryptogram.
9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the custom command comprises a command to update a file stored by the contactless card to include a nonce, wherein the calculation of the cryptogram utilizes the nonce.
10 . A computing system, comprising:
a computing apparatus comprising a processor and a memory,
wherein the memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
read, after entry of a contactless card into a communication field, the contactless card,
select, based on the read of the contactless card, an applet stored in a memory of the contactless card,
transmit, to the contactless card, a first command, wherein the first command comprises a custom command,
transmit, to the contactless card, a second command,
receive, from the contactless card, a message based upon at least one selected from the group the the first command and the second command, the message comprising encrypted data and an issuer identifier, the issuer identifier associated with an issuer of the contactless card; and
send, to a switchboard node, the received message.
11 . The computing system of claim 10 , wherein the first command comprises a command to update a file stored by the contactless card to include a nonce.
12 . The computing system of claim 10 , wherein the second command comprises a command for the contactless card to calculate a cryptogram.
13 . The computing system of claim 12 , further comprising:
the contactless card,
wherein the contactless card calculates the cryptogram using the nonce.
14 . The computing system of claim 10 , wherein:
the instructions further cause the processor to read a capabilities container stored in the memory of the contactless card, and
the capabilities container is associated with the selected applet.
15 . The computing system of claim 14 , wherein the read of the capabilities container collects information comprising at least one selected from the group of a size of the capabilities container and a number of files stored in the capabilities container.
16 . The computing system of claim 15 , wherein the information further comprises at least one selected from the group of file sizes of files stored in the capabilities container, file names of files stored in the capabilities container, a read status of files stored in the capabilities container, and a write status of files stored in the capabilities container.
17 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, the computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a computing apparatus, cause the computing apparatus to perform procedures comprising:
reading a contactless card;
selecting, based on the read of the contactless card, an applet stored in a memory of the contactless card;
transmitting, to the contactless card, a first command, wherein the first command comprises a custom command;
transmitting, to the contactless card, a second command;
receiving, from the contactless card, a message based upon at least one selected from the group of the first command and the second command, the message comprising encrypted data and an issuer identifier, the issuer identifier associated with an issuer of the contactless card; and
sending, to a switchboad node, the received message.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the first command comprises a command to update a file stored by the contactless card to include a nonce.
19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the second command comprises a command for the contactless card to calculate a cryptogram using the nonce.
20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein:
the message is formatted to include an issuer identifier field, and
the issued identifier is in the issuer identifier field.
