Abstract

Described herein is a system and method for sensor data device registration. A server receives from a client device, a device identifier associated with a sensor data device. Responsive to determining that the sensor data device is not linked to a respective dashboard, the server transmits to the client device, an indication that the sensor data device is unregistered. The server receives from the client device an indication of a dashboard to which to assign the sensor data device, and thereafter links the sensor device data to the indicated dashboard so that sensor data received from the sensor data device is presented in a user interface corresponding to the indicated dashboard.

Claims (44)

1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, by a server, a device identifier associated with a sensor data device, the device identifier being received from a client device that acquires the device identifier from the sensor data device;

in response to determining that the sensor data device is not linked to a respective dashboard, transmitting, by the server to the client device, an indication that the sensor data device is unregistered;

receiving, by the server from the client device, an indication of a dashboard to which to assign the sensor data device; and

causing, by the server, the sensor data device to be linked to the dashboard so that sensor data received from the sensor data device is presented in a user interface corresponding to the dashboard.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the client device acquires the device identifier by scanning an image of the sensor data device, wherein the device identifier is embedded in the image.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the device identifier comprises receiving a beacon signal from the client device in which the device identifier is embedded.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , further comprising transmitting, by the server, at least one authentication credential to the sensor data device, the at least one authentication credential authenticating the sensor data device with another device in proximity to the sensor data device.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , further comprising receiving, by the server, the at least one authentication credential from the another device in proximity to the sensor data device.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the server, the sensor data from the sensor data device; and

forwarding, by the server, the sensor data to the dashboard via a message broker.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , further comprising identifying, by the server, the dashboard based on the device identifier being embedded in the sensor data from the sensor data device.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor data comprises network traffic exchanged between a device in proximity to the sensor data device and a remote device.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the server, health data from the sensor data device, the health data comprising at least one of a power status, a network connectivity, or a status of one or more sensors in the sensor data device; and

generating, by the server, a user interface displaying the health data.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the server, a management command to manage the sensor data device, the management command comprising a command to power cycle the sensor data device, power off the sensor data device, power on the sensor data device, or change a configuration setting in the sensor data device; and

causing, by the server, the sensor data device to execute the management command.

11 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media including instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform steps of:

receiving a device identifier associated with a sensor data device, the device identifier being received from a client device that acquires the device identifier from the sensor data device;

in response to determining that the sensor data device is not linked to a respective dashboard, transmitting, to the client device, an indication that the sensor data device is unregistered;

receiving, from the client device, an indication of a dashboard to which to assign the sensor data device; and

causing the sensor data device to be linked to the dashboard so that sensor data received from the sensor data device is presented in a user interface corresponding to the dashboard.

12 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein the client device acquires the device identifier by scanning an image of the sensor data device, wherein the device identifier is embedded in the image.

13 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein receiving the device identifier comprises receiving a beacon signal from the client device in which the device identifier is embedded.

14 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein the steps further comprise transmitting at least one authentication credential to the sensor data device, the at least one authentication credential authenticating the sensor data device with another device in proximity to the sensor data device.

15 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 14 , wherein the steps further comprise receiving the at least one authentication credential from the another device in proximity to the sensor data device.

16 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 wherein the steps further comprise:

receiving the sensor data from the sensor data device; and

forwarding the sensor data to the dashboard via a message broker.

17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 16 , wherein the steps further comprise identifying the dashboard based on the device identifier being embedded in the sensor data from the sensor data device.

18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein the sensor data comprises network traffic exchanged between a device in proximity to the sensor data device and a remote device.

19 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , wherein the steps further comprise:

receiving health data from the sensor data device, the health data comprising at least one of a power status, a network connectivity, or a status of one or more sensors in the sensor data device; and

generating a user interface displaying the health data.

20 . A system, comprising:

a memory that includes instructions; and

a processor that is coupled to the memory and, when executing the instructions, is configured to:

receive a device identifier associated with a sensor data device, the device identifier being received from a client device that acquires the device identifier from the sensor data device;

in response to determining that the sensor data device is not linked to a respective dashboard, transmit, to the client device, an indication that the sensor data device is unregistered;

receive, from the client device, an indication of a dashboard to which to assign the sensor data device; and

cause the sensor data device to be linked to the dashboard so that sensor data received from the sensor data device is presented in a user interface corresponding to the dashboard.
