Abstract

A content management system may instantiate, from the same super class defined in a database schema, principal objects representing users and groups and content objects representing documents and folders. The principal objects and the content objects share the same social interaction functions. When a content object is modified, the system can create a message in which the content object identifies itself as a first person, update a message table such that any follower of the content object is notified of the message, and update a profile or feed associated with the content object. At least because content objects can “socialize” like principal objects, the system can generate a social graph containing content objects as nodes, map relationships among principal objects and content objects, and make recommendations to perhaps change/enhance such relationships.

Claims (36)

1 . A method, comprising:

generating, by a content management system operating in a computer network, document objects in a computer network, the document objects comprising a first social document object, the first social document object being enabled for social interactions among the first social document object and the other objects within the content management system;

responsive to the first social document object being modified, generating, by the content management system, a message indicating that the first social document object has been modified; and

sending, by the content management system, the message from the first social document object to the other associated objects.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the same social interaction functions include at least a method for following, liking, or commenting on an object instantiated from a super class.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the message further identifies an author who modified a content object.

4 . The method according to claim 3 , wherein when the content object is modified, the content management system further creates a message indicating that the author modified the content object and updates a profile or feed associated with the author accordingly.

5 . The method according to claim 3 , wherein the content object is a document or a folder.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising responsive to an application programming interface (API) call, updating a profile or feed associated with a user indicating that a content object is following the user, is following or has mentioned a document created by the user, has joined a network associated with the user, or has connected with the user.

7 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising responsive to an indication from a user, updating a profile or feed associated with a content object to include the user as a follower of the content object.

8 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

determining relationships among a plurality of principal objects and content objects; and

creating a social graph containing nodes and edges based on the relationships, wherein the plurality of principal objects and the content objects are represented by the nodes connected by the edges representing relationships among the plurality of principal objects and the content objects.

9 . The method according to claim 8 , further comprising storing the social graph in a relational database or a graph database.

10 . The method according to claim 8 , further comprising generating one or more recommendations to connect or disconnect two or more of the plurality of principal objects and the content objects.

11 . A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions for:

generating, by a content management system operating in a computer network, document objects in a computer network, the document objects comprising a first social document object, the first social document object being enabled for social interactions among the first social document object and the other objects within the content management system;

responsive to the first social document object being modified, generating, by the content management system, a message indicating that the first social document object has been modified; and

sending, by the content management system, the message from the first social document object to the other associated objects.

12 . The system according to claim 11 , wherein the same social interaction functions include at least a method for following, liking, or commenting on an object instantiated from a super class.

13 . The system according to claim 11 , wherein the message further identifies an author who modified a content object.

14 . The system according to claim 13 , wherein when the content object is modified, the content management system further creates a message indicating that the author modified the content object and updates a profile or feed associated with the author accordingly.

15 . The system according to claim 13 , wherein the content object is a document or a folder.

16 . The system according to claim 11 , further comprising instructions for:

responsive to an application programming interface (API) call, updating a profile or feed associated with a user indicating that a content object is following the user, is following or has mentioned a document created by the user, has joined a network associated with the user, or has connected with the user.

17 . The system according to claim 11 , further comprising instructions for:

responsive to an indication from a user, updating a profile or feed associated with a content object to include the user as a follower of the content object.

18 . The system according to claim 11 , further comprising instructions for:

determining relationships among a plurality of principal objects and content objects; and

creating a social graph containing nodes and edges based on the relationships, wherein the plurality of principal objects and the content objects are represented by the nodes connected by the edges representing relationships among the plurality of principal objects and the content objects.

19 . The system according to claim 18 , further comprising instructions for:

storing the social graph in a relational database or a graph database.

20 . The system according to claim 18 , further comprising instructions for:

generating one or more recommendations to connect or disconnect two or more of the plurality of principal objects and the content objects.
