Abstract

The present invention is directed to methods and systems for determining a location of a vehicle within a geofence. The location of the vehicle is determined by a fencing agent on a vehicle. The geofence is defined by a plurality of geographic designators, with the plurality of geographic designators each being associated with an Internet Protocol (IP) address, preferably an IPv6 address.

Claims (62)

1 . A system for determining a location of a vehicle within a geofence, comprising:

a plurality of distributed server computers each including a non-transitory computer readable medium, a processor, and a memory in communication with a fencing agent;

wherein the plurality of distributed server computers defines the geofence using a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address labeled anchor point in a distributed geofence database, wherein the geofence is not defined by longitude and latitude;

wherein the geofence is defined in part by an altitude;

wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point includes metadata, wherein the metadata includes lookup table identifiers;

wherein the fencing agent determines a geographic location of the vehicle and converts the geographic location to an IP address;

wherein the fencing agent identifies the geofence associated with the IP address;

wherein the fencing agent is operable to identify at least one rule associated with the geofence;

wherein the plurality of distributed server computers are operable to receive an acceptance of a license agreement from the fencing agent before implementing the at least one rule associated with the geofence;

wherein the lookup table identifiers are sortable by a licensee of the license agreement;

wherein the fencing agent is operable to automatically implement the at least one rule associated with the geofence for the at least one vehicle;

wherein the fencing agent is operable to detect conflicting rules associated with the geofence and implement a higher ranked rule;

wherein the plurality of distributed server computers are operable to return at least one code associated with the at least one rule;

wherein the plurality of distributed server computers are operable to automatically block access to a website based on the at least one code; and

wherein the distributed geofence database stores geographic point information corresponding to the unique IP address labeled anchor point and updates the geographic point information for the unique IP address labeled anchor point in the distributed geofence database.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point is an IPv6 address labeled anchor point.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the fencing agent is embedded in a chip in an operating system of the vehicle.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point is associated with a geographic location.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the geofence is defined by a plurality of points.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of points are defined by a plurality of IP addresses in the distributed geofence database.

7 . An apparatus for determining a location of a vehicle within a geofence, comprising:

at least one distributed server computer, wherein each of the at least one distributed server computer includes a non-transitory computer readable medium, a processor, and a memory in communication with a fencing agent;

wherein the at least one distributed server computer defines the geofence using a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address labeled anchor point in a distributed geofence database;

wherein the geofence is not defined by longitude and latitude;

wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point includes metadata, wherein the metadata includes lookup table identifiers;

wherein the fencing agent determines a geographic location of the vehicle and converts the geographic location to an IP address;

wherein the fencing agent identifies the geofence associated with the IP address;

wherein the fencing agent is operable to identify at least one rule associated with the geofence;

wherein the at least one distributed server computer is operable to receive an acceptance of a license agreement from the fencing agent before implementing the at least one rule associated with the geofence;

wherein the lookup table identifiers are sortable by a licensee of the license agreement;

wherein the fencing agent is operable to automatically implement the at least one rule associated with the geofence for the at least one vehicle;

wherein the fencing agent is operable to detect conflicting rules associated with the geofence and implement a higher ranked rule;

wherein the at least one distributed server computer is operable to return at least one code associated with the at least one rule;

wherein the at least one distributed server computer is operable to automatically block access to a website based on the at least one code; and

wherein the distributed geofence database stores geographic point information corresponding to the unique IP address labeled anchor point and updates the geographic point information for the unique IP address labeled anchor point in the distributed geofence database.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point is an IPv6 address labeled anchor point.

9 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the fencing agent is embedded in a chip in an operating system of the vehicle.

10 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point is associated with a geographic location.

11 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the geofence is defined by a plurality of points.

12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of points are defined by a plurality of IP addresses in the distributed geofence database.

13 . A method for identifying a location of a vehicle within a geofence, comprising:

a fencing agent determining a geographic location of the vehicle and converting the geographic location to an Internet Protocol (IP) address;

the fencing agent identifying the geofence associated with the IP address;

wherein the fencing agent is in communication with a plurality of distributed server computers each including a non-transitory computer readable medium, a processor, and a memory;

wherein the plurality of distributed server computers defines the geofence using a unique IP address labeled anchor point in a distributed geofence database;

wherein the geofence is not defined by longitude and latitude;

wherein the geofence is defined in part on an altitude;

wherein the unique IP address labeled anchor point includes metadata, wherein the metadata includes lookup table identifiers;
