Abstract

There is disclosed a method of operating a wireless device for a wireless communication network. The method includes transmitting a random access preamble on a frequency resource, wherein the location of the frequency resource is based on a reception characteristic of reference signaling received by the wireless device. The disclosure also pertains to related devices and methods.

Claims (25)

1 . A method of operating a wireless device for a wireless communication network, the method comprising:

transmitting a random access preamble on a frequency resource, a location of the frequency resource being based on a reception characteristic of reference signaling received by the wireless device, the preamble being from a wireless device-selectable set of preambles and being selected for transmission from the wireless device-selectable set of preambles based on reception characteristics of the reference signaling received by the wireless device.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the frequency resource is a resource of one of a first set of resources and a second set of resources.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the location of the frequency resource is central or at the edge of a bandwidth.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the preamble is based on the location of the frequency resource.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the reference signaling is synchronisation signaling.

6 . A wireless device for a wireless communication network, the wireless device configured to:

transmit a random access preamble on a frequency resource, a location of the frequency resource being based on a reception characteristic of reference signaling received by the wireless device, the preamble being from a wireless device-selectable set of preambles and being selected for transmission from the wireless device-selectable set of preambles based on reception characteristics of the reference signaling received by the wireless device.

7 . The wireless device according to claim 6 , wherein the frequency resource is a resource of one of a first set of resources and a second set of resources.

8 . The wireless device according to claim 6 , wherein the location of the frequency resource is central or at the edge of a bandwidth.

9 . The wireless device according to claim 6 , wherein the preamble is based on the location of the frequency resource.

10 . The wireless device according to claim 6 , wherein the reference signaling is synchronisation signaling.

11 . A method of operating a network node for a wireless communication network, the method comprising:

receiving a random access preamble on a frequency resource, a location of the frequency resource being based on a reception characteristic of reference signaling received by a wireless device, the preamble being from a wireless device-selectable set of preambles and being selected for transmission from the wireless device-selectable set of preambles based on reception characteristics of the reference signaling received by the wireless device.

12 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the frequency resource is a resource of one of a first set of resources and a second set of resources.

13 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the location of the frequency resource is central or at the edge of a bandwidth.

14 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the preamble is based on the location of the frequency resource.

15 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the reference signaling is synchronisation signaling.

16 . A network node for a wireless communication network, the network node configured to:

receive a random access preamble on a frequency resource, a location of the frequency resource being based on a reception characteristic of reference signaling received by a wireless device, the preamble being from a wireless device-selectable set of preambles and being selected for transmission from the wireless device-selectable set of preambles based on reception characteristics of the reference signaling received by the wireless device.

17 . The network node according to claim 16 , wherein the frequency resource is a resource of one of a first set of resources and a second set of resources.

18 . The network node according to claim 16 , wherein the location of the frequency resource is central or at the edge of a bandwidth.

19 . The network node according to claim 16 , wherein the preamble is based on the location of the frequency resource.

20 . A non-transitory computer storage medium storing a computer program comprising instructions causing processing circuitry to one or both control and perform a method, the method comprising:

transmitting a random access preamble on a frequency resource, a location of the frequency resource being based on a reception characteristic of reference signaling received by a wireless device, the preamble being from a wireless device-selectable set of preambles and being selected for transmission from the wireless device-selectable set of preambles based on reception characteristics of the reference signaling received by the wireless device.
