Abstract

A shoulder transfer weight support generally having a hip or waist belt, a back support, and one or more shoulder extensions. The back support has an upper back plate attached to the shoulder extensions and a lower back plate attached to one or more hip belts. The lower back plate features a bracket shaped to receive an end of the attachment bar that joins it to the upper back plate. A spring-loaded plunger can be inserted into the attachment bar to allow for height adjustment of the device. A face shield at least partially made of a radiopaque material and can attach to the back support. One attachment option is a yoke mount with vertical sections at either end of the yoke mount. A second option involves a mount that attaches to the shoulder extension(s). The device can use a full face shield or a face shield with an open front.

Claims (36)

1 . A weight transfer device, comprising:

a first shoulder extension comprising a rigid bar configured to extend at least partially above a shoulder of a user;

a second shoulder extension comprising a second rigid bar configured to extend at least partially above a shoulder of the user;

an upper back plate configured to be connected to the first shoulder extension and the second shoulder extension;

a lower back plate comprising an inner surface and outer surface, wherein the inner surface comprises a recessed open-faced channel or bracket region and a hole extending through the lower back plate and into the recessed open-faced channel or bracket region;

an attachment member comprising a first end and spaced apart second end, wherein the first end is configured to be attached to the upper back plate,

wherein the second end includes a second end portion extending from the second end, the second end portion comprises a plurality of spaced apart holes extending through the attachment member,

wherein one of the one or more of the plurality of spaced apart holes in the second end region is configured to releasably engage with an attachment mechanism and the attachment mechanism is configured to be arranged through one of the one or more plurality of spaced apart holes in the attachment member and the hole extending through the lower back plate; and

at least one belt configured to be attach to the lower back plate.

2 . The weight transfer device of claim 1 , wherein the attachment member comprises a rigid material.

3 . The weight transfer device of claim 2 , wherein the attachment mechanism comprises a biasing member configured to move from a first extended position to a second retracted position upon application of a force to the biasing member.

4 . The weight transfer device of claim 1 , further comprising a second belt positioned inside the at least one belt.

5 . The weight transfer device of claim 1 , further comprising a face shield configured to shield or reduce radiation.

6 . The weight transfer device of claim 5 , further comprising a yoke mount having at least one vertically oriented section to which the face shield is configured to be releasably attached.

7 . The weight transfer device of claim 6 , wherein the yoke mount is a bent rod that has vertical sections at each of two opposing ends and a horizontal section joining the vertical sections.

8 . The weight transfer device of claim 1 , further comprising a non-slip material arranged on a portion of the first shoulder extension and the second shoulder extension.

9 . A weight transfer device, comprising:

a first shoulder extension comprising a rigid bar configured to extend at least partially above a shoulder of a user;

a second shoulder extension comprising a second rigid bar configured to extend at least partially above a shoulder of the user;

an upper back plate configured to be connected to the first shoulder extension and the second shoulder extension;

a non-slip material attached to at least a portion of the first shoulder extension and the second shoulder extension;

a lower back plate comprising a front side and a rear side,

wherein the front side comprises a recessed bracket region and hole extending through the lower back plate and into the recessed bracket region;

an attachment member comprising a first end region and spaced apart second end region, wherein the first end region is configured to be attached to the upper back plate,

wherein the second end region comprises a plurality of spaced apart holes extending through the attachment member,

wherein one of the plurality of spaced apart holes in the second end region and the hole in the lower back plate are configured to releasably engage an attachment mechanism; and

a first belt configured to be attached to the lower back plate.

10 . The weight transfer device of claim 9 further comprising: a face shield configured to block radiation.

11 . The weight transfer device of claim 10 , wherein the face shield is configured to extend along a side of a user's head.

12 . The weight transfer device of claim 10 , wherein the face shield is substantially flat and is configured to extend only laterally along a side of a user's head.

13 . A weight transfer device, comprising:

a first shoulder extension comprising a rigid bar configured to extend at least partially above a shoulder of a user;

a second shoulder extension comprising a second rigid bar configured to extend at least partially above a shoulder of the user;

an upper back plate configured to be connected to the first shoulder extension and the second shoulder extension;

a lower back plate comprising a front side and a rear side, wherein the lower back plate includes a hole extending through the front side and read side, wherein the lower back plate includes a recessed bracket; and

an attachment member comprising a first end portion with a plurality of spaced apart side holes and second end portion with one or more holes, wherein one or more of the plurality of spaced apart holes is configured to releasably engage attachment mechanism to releasably attached the attachment member to the lower back plate a predetermined position and the one or more holes are configured to allow attachment to the upper back plate with one or more upper attachment mechanisms.
