Coiled anchor for supporting prosthetic heart valve, prosthetic heart valve, and deployment device
An anchor for a prosthetic heart valve includes a core, a first cover layer, and a second cover layer. The core includes a plurality of helical turns. One or more outflow turns of the plurality of helical turns has a diameter configured to be disposed on an outflow side of a native valve, and one or more inflow turns of the plurality of helical turns has a diameter configured to be disposed on an inflow side of a native valve. The first cover layer is disposed over and contacts the helical core, and the first cover layer includes a first material. The second cover layer is disposed over and contacts the first cover layer, and the second cover layer includes a second material, which is different than the first material.
1 . An anchor for a prosthetic heart valve, comprising:
a core comprising a plurality of helical turns, wherein one or more outflow turns of the plurality of helical turns has a diameter configured to be disposed on an outflow side of a native valve, wherein one or more inflow turns of the plurality of helical turns has a diameter configured to be disposed on an inflow side of the native valve; and
a foam layer circumferentially wrapped around and coupled to the core such that ends of the foam layer meet with one another, wherein the foam layer extends from the inflow side to the outflow side of the native valve,
wherein the anchor is configured to be implanted within the native valve prior to implantation of the prosthetic heart valve.
2 . The anchor of claim 1 , further comprising a cloth cover disposed over and coupled to the foam layer, wherein the cloth cover extends from the inflow side to the outflow side of the native valve.
3 . The anchor of claim 2 , wherein the cloth cover comprises polyethylene terephthalate.
4 . The anchor of claim 2 , further comprising means for coupling the cloth cover to the foam layer.
5 . The anchor of claim 1 , wherein two adjacent turns of the plurality of helical turns are spaced apart from one another such that there is a gap between the two adjacent turns.
6 . The anchor of claim 1 , wherein the core comprises Nitinol.
7 . The anchor of claim 1 , further comprising means for coupling the foam layer to the core.
8 . An assembly comprising:
a prosthetic heart valve, wherein the prosthetic heart valve comprises a metal frame and a plurality of leaflets for controlling blood flow through the prosthetic heart valve; and
an anchor configured to extend around native leaflets and for securing the prosthetic heart valve to native tissue and comprising:
a core comprising one or more revolutions; and
a foam layer contacting and fully wrapping an outer surface of the core,
wherein the anchor is configured to be implanted within the native tissue prior to implantation of the prosthetic heart valve within the native tissue.
9 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the anchor is configured to position native heart valve leaflets between the metal frame of the prosthetic heart valve and the anchor.
10 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the core comprises a metal alloy.
11 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the metal frame of the prosthetic heart valve comprises Nitinol.
12 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the cover is a first cover, and the anchor further comprises a second cover disposed over and contacting the first cover.
13 . The assembly of claim 12 , wherein the second cover comprises polyethylene terephthalate.
14 . The assembly of claim 12 , further comprising means for coupling the first cover to the core and means for coupling the second cover to the first cover.
15 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein two adjacent revolutions of the one or more revolutions are spaced apart from one another such that there is a gap between the two adjacent revolutions.
16 . The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the core comprises Nitinol.

a prosthetic heart valve, wherein the prosthetic heart valve comprises a self-expanding metal frame and a plurality of leaflets coupled to the self-expanding metal frame and configured for controlling blood flow through the prosthetic heart valve; and
an anchor configured to extend around native leaflets and for securing the prosthetic heart valve to the native leaflets and comprising:
a core comprising one or more revolutions; and
a foam layer folded around and coupled to the core,
wherein the anchor is configured to be implanted prior to implantation of the prosthetic heart valve.
18 . The assembly of claim 17 , wherein the anchor further comprises a fabric disposed over and contacting the foam layer.
19 . The assembly of claim 18 , further comprising means for coupling the foam layer to the core and means for coupling the fabric to the first cover foam layer.
