Abstract

An absorbent article includes a first waist region, a second waist region, and a crotch region disposed between the first and second waist regions. The article also includes a chassis having a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and backsheet; and an ear joined to the chassis. The ear includes a laminate formed from a first nonwoven and second nonwoven and an elastomeric material sandwiched between said first and second nonwovens. The laminate further includes a plurality of ultrasonic bonds; and the first nonwoven includes an exterior surface having an average TS750 value of 5 db V2 rms or less.

Claims (43)

1 . An absorbent article comprising:

a first waist region, a second waist region, a crotch region disposed between the first and second waist regions;

a chassis comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and backsheet;

an ear joined to the chassis and comprising:

a laminate comprising a first spunbond nonwoven and an elastomeric material, wherein the laminate further comprises a plurality of ultrasonic bonds;

wherein the first spunbond nonwoven has an Average Bond Area prior to incorporation into the laminate of between about 7% to about 14% and a basis weight of 25 gsm or less;

wherein the laminate comprises an elastic region and an inelastic region, and wherein the inelastic region is free from elastomeric material,

wherein the inelastic region is joined to the chassis; and

a fastening system joined to the ear by a fastening attachment bond, wherein the fastening attachment bond overlaps the elastomeric material.

2 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the elastomeric material comprises a film.

3 . The absorbent article of claim 2 wherein the film comprises a preactivated film.

4 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the elastomeric material comprises a basis weight of about 10 to about 100 gsm.

5 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the ear comprises an ear area and the elastic region comprises an elastic region area, wherein said elastic region area is about 80% or less of the total ear area.

6 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first spunbond nonwoven is void of a meltblown layer.

7 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first spunbond nonwoven comprises an Average Bond Height of at least 0.35 mm.

8 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first spunbond nonwoven comprises an Average Bond Width of at least 1.25 mm.

9 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first spunbond nonwoven comprises an Average Bond Thickness of at least 0.5 mm.

10 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the laminate comprises a second nonwoven, the second nonwoven comprising one or more nonwoven layers selected from the group consisting of spunbond layers, nanofiber layers, meltblown layers and combinations thereof.

11 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the laminate comprises an Air Permeability Value of at least 1 m 3 /m 2 /min.

12 . The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the inelastic region comprises a first inelastic region and further comprising a second inelastic region located on a side of the elastic region opposite a side of the elastic region adjacent to the first inelastic region.

13 . The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the fastening system comprises a fastening element.

14 . An absorbent article comprising:

a chassis comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and backsheet, a first waist region, a second waist region, and a crotch region disposed between the first and second waist regions;

an ear joined to the chassis, the ear comprising:

a laminate comprising:

a first spunbond nonwoven having an Average Bond Area of 14% or less prior to incorporation into the laminate,

a film,

a plurality of ultrasonic bonds,

an elastic region and an inelastic region, wherein the inelastic region is free of elastic material,

wherein the inelastic region is joined to the chassis; and

a fastening system joined to the ear by a fastening attachment bond, wherein the fastening attachment bond overlaps the elastic region.

15 . The absorbent article of claim 14 the film is a preactivated film, and wherein the preactivated film comprises a basis weight of about 10 to about 100 gsm.

16 . The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein the ear comprises an ear area and the elastic region comprises an elastic region area, wherein said elastic region area is about 80% or less of the total ear area.

17 . The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein the first spunbond nonwoven is void of a meltblown layer.

18 . The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein the first spunbond nonwoven comprises an Average Bond Height of at least 0.35 mm.

19 . The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein the laminate comprises a second nonwoven, the second nonwoven comprising one or more nonwoven layers selected from the group consisting of spunbond layers, nanofiber layers, meltblown layers and combinations thereof.

20 . The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein the laminate comprises an Air Permeability Value of at least 1 m 3 /m 2 /min.

21 . An absorbent article comprising:

a chassis comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and backsheet, a first waist region, a second waist region, and a crotch region disposed between the first and second waist regions;

an ear joined to the chassis, the ear comprising:

a laminate comprising a first spunbond nonwoven having an Average Bond Area of from about 5% to about 15% prior to incorporation of the spunbond nonwoven into the laminate, a film, an elastic region, and an inelastic region, wherein the inelastic region is free of elastic material, and wherein the laminate further comprises a plurality of ultrasonic bonds,

wherein the laminate has a laminate total width and the film has a film total with, and wherein the film total width is from about 25% to about 85% of the laminate total width.
