Abstract

High quality coke products made in horizontal ovens such as heat recovery, non-recovery or Thompson ovens from an optimized coal blend. The coke products have unique properties such as an oblong shape and improved Coke Strength after Reaction (CSR) and Coke Reactivity Index (CRI) properties.

Claims (23)

1 . A coke product, comprising:

a Coke Reactivity Index (CRI) of at least 35%,

a Coke Strength after Reaction (CSR) between 15-40%,

a moisture content between 1-10%,

a sulfur content less than 1.0%, and

a fixed carbon content of at least 80%.

2 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a 4-inch drop shatter of at least 60% when using a starting material having a size of at least 4 inches in a drop shatter test.

3 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a 2-inch drop shatter of at least 80% when using a starting material having a size of at least 4 inches in a drop shatter test.

4 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a 4-inch drop shatter of at least 30% when using a starting material having a size of at least 4 inches in a drop shatter test.

5 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a 2-inch drop shatter of at least 40% when using a starting material having a size of at least 4 inches in a drop shatter test.

6 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the fixed carbon content is at least 95%.

7 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises an ash content less than 12%.

8 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a sulfur content of less than 0.5%.

9 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a volatile matter (VM) content of less than 2%.

10 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a moisture content of at least 2%.

11 . The coke product of claim 1 , wherein the coke product comprises a gray or light gray color.

12 . A coke product, comprising:

a Coke Reactivity Index (CRI) of at least 35%,

a Coke Strength after Reaction (CSR) less than 40%,

a sulfur content less than 1.0%, and

a fixed carbon content of at least 80%.

13 . The coke product of claim 12 , wherein the CSR is between 15-40%.

14 . The coke product of claim 12 , further comprising a moisture content of at least 1%.
