Modeling engine structuring business process modeling notation models into process trees
A method is provided. The method is executed by a modeling engine implemented as a computer program within a computing environment. The method includes translating a pre-processed model based on an unstructured existing process into a patched process tree. The translating includes detecting, structuring, and translating rigids of the pre-processed model into corresponding process tree equivalent elements of the patched process tree.
1 . A method for structuring modeling notation into process trees, the method executed by a modeling engine implemented as a computer program within a computing environment solves a problem with respect to a homogenous exclusive choice rigid of one or more rigids, the method comprising:
translating, by the modeling engine, a pre-processed model into a patched process tree, the pre-processed model comprising the modeling notation and being based on an existing unstructured process, the translating comprising:
detecting one or more candidates for removal of the pre-processed model as incoming edges connected to exclusive choice gateways in the rigid, the one or more candidates comprising the homogenous exclusive choice rigid,
structuring one or more patches by removing an edge with respect to the homogenous exclusive choice rigid to make a process component structured and producing a patch on a process tree that represents a behavior of the removed edge, and
translating the one or more rigids of the pre-processed model into corresponding one or more process tree equivalent elements of the patched process tree, the one or more process tree equivalent elements comprise the one or more patches between nodes that address the one or more rigids including the problem with respect to the homogenous exclusive choice rigid.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the patched process tree comprises a data structure comprising one or more extensions.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more process tree equivalent elements comprise one or more supplement, correction, or synchronization edges.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the modeling engine provides the patched process tree to an application for a conformance check.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more rigids comprise non-homogenous exclusive choice rigids.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the modeling engine generates the pre-processed model from the unstructured existing process, and
wherein the unstructured existing process comprises unstructured process definitions.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the patched process tree comprises one or more edges outside of a hierarchical structure between process tree nodes.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more rigids comprises a non-homogenous exclusive choice rigid solved by decomposing into sequential components without gateways.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more rigids comprises a non-homogenous exclusive choice rigid solved by decomposing into the homogenous exclusive choice rigid.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the patched process tree is iteratively generated to a final version for a process implementation.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the modeling engine outputs the patched process tree as a usable data structure for a process implementation.
12 . A system for solving a problem with respect to a homogenous exclusive choice rigid of one or more rigids, the system comprising:
at least one memory storing program code for a modeling engine for structuring modeling notation into process trees; and
at least one processor executing the program code to cause the modeling engine to:
translate a pre-processed model into a patched process tree, the pre-processed model comprising the modeling notation and being based on an existing unstructured process, the translating comprising:
detecting one or more candidates for removal of the pre-processed model as incoming edges connected to exclusive choice gateways in the rigid, the one or more candidates comprising the homogenous exclusive choice rigid,
structuring one or more patches by removing an edge with respect to the homogenous exclusive choice rigid to make a process component structured and producing a patch on a process tree that represents a behavior of the removed edge, and
translating the one or more rigids of the pre-processed model into corresponding one or more process tree equivalent elements of the patched process tree, the one or more process tree equivalent elements comprise the one or more patches between nodes that address the one or more rigids including the problem with respect to the homogenous exclusive choice rigid.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the patched process tree comprises a data structure comprising one or more extensions.
14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the one or more process tree equivalent elements comprise one or more supplement, correction, or synchronization edges.
15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the modeling engine provides the patched process tree to an application for a conformance check.
16 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the one or more rigids comprise non-homogenous exclusive choice rigids.
17 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the modeling engine generates the pre-processed model from the unstructured existing process, and
wherein the unstructured existing process comprises unstructured process definitions.
18 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the patched process tree comprises one or more edges outside of a hierarchical structure between process tree nodes.
