Abstract

A data processing apparatus for processing network data transmitted from a plurality of remote, distributed terminal devices, comprising: a logic processing device that: accesses, over one or more distributed networks, instructions that define initialization of a process of determining multi-user network sources and that specify to allocate one or more portions of a virtual record among the multi-user network sources by automatically simulating a digital exchange process in which the data processing apparatus is a receiving source to receive at least one of the one or more portions by a processing network.

Claims (38)

1 . A data processing apparatus for allocating transaction amounts among multiple payment sources, the data processing apparatus comprising:

at least one processor; and

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

receive, from an interception device physically disposed between a point-of-sale terminal and a receipt printer, printer-port signaling data generated for printing a receipt corresponding to a transaction initiated at the point-of-sale terminal;

decode, from the printer-port signaling data, item-level transaction data conforming to a point-of-sale receipt protocol;

receive allocation information specifying a proposed distribution of transaction amounts among payment sources for the transaction initiated at the point-of-sale terminal and respectively associated with a plurality of networked client devices, the payment sources including at least a first payment source associated with a first client device and a second payment source associated with a second client device;

simulate a digital exchange process among the first payment source and the second payment source to obtain respective approvals for the proposed distribution of the transaction amounts; and

cause, in response to receiving the respective approvals, a modification of account records associated with the first payment source and the second payment source substantially simultaneously to reflect the proposed distribution of the transaction amounts.

2 . The data processing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

receive, from each networked client device, a geocode specifying a real-time geographical location of that client device;

determine, based on geocodes for the first and second client devices and a location of the point-of-sale terminal, whether each device is located within a specified distance of said point-of-sale terminal; and

conditionally allow the digital exchange process to continue only when each of the first and second client devices is within the specified distance.

3 . The data processing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

display, on one or more of the networked client devices, a graphical user interface listing the one or more line items from the item-level transaction data;

receive input identifying a subset of the line items selected by each of the first and second client devices; and

adjust the proposed distribution of the transaction amounts based on the selected line items attributed to each client device.

4 . The data processing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

perform an activation process to enable the first payment source or the second payment source for participation in the transaction; and

deactivate the respective payment source following completion of the digital exchange process.

5 . The data processing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein simulating the digital exchange process comprises generating, for each payment source, a transaction request that is processed by a merchant-acquirer network as if the data processing apparatus were acting as a merchant, and wherein each payment source separately authorizes an allocated transaction amount before the at least one processor causes said modification of the account records.

6 . A data processing apparatus for processing network data records transmitted from a plurality of remote, distributed terminal devices, comprising:

at least one processor; and

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations including:

receiving allocation information specifying an allocation of transaction amounts from among payment sources associated with a plurality of networked client devices;

simulating a digital exchange process among the plurality of networked client devices for allocating the transaction amounts between a first account associated with a first client device and a second account associated with a second client device by performing operations comprising:

performing a security authentication process for each of the first client device and the second client device of the networked client devices by:

receiving, for each of the first client device and the second client device, a geo-code indicating a location of that client device;

receiving identifier data indicating a terminal device that is physically associated with the digital exchange process, the terminal device being a non-mobile device associated with a location;

determining the location of the terminal device that is physically associated with the digital exchange process based on the identifier data indicating the terminal device;

authenticating, from the geo-code of each of the first and second client devices, that each of the first and second client devices is located within a specified distance to the location of the terminal device that is physically associated with the digital exchange process; and

determining whether to allow the digital exchange process to continue when the authenticating indicates that each of the first and second client devices is located within the specified distance to the location of the terminal device that is physically associated with the digital exchange process;

determining, based on determining whether to allow the digital exchange process to continue and based on the allocation information, the transaction amounts for assigning to at least a first payment source associated with the first client device and a second payment source associated with the second client device, the first payment source and the second payment source included in the payment sources; and

simulating the digital exchange process among the first payment source and second payment source, wherein approval by the first payment source and the second payment source for the digital exchange process are received during the simulation; and

causing, based on the simulating and in response to receiving the approval by the first payment source and the second payment source for the digital exchange process, modification of the first account and the second account in accordance with the transaction amounts, wherein the modification of the first and second accounts occur substantially simultaneously.

7 . The data-processing apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the memory further stores instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

(a) receive, from an interception device physically interposed between the terminal device and a receipt printer, printer-port signaling data generated for printing a receipt that corresponds to the digital-exchange process;

(b) decode the printer-port signaling data to extract item-level transaction data for one or more line items included in the digital-exchange process; and

(c) transmit the item-level transaction data to each of the networked client devices prior to determining the transaction amounts, thereby enabling the first and second client devices to verify individual line items in real time.
