Abstract

Various methods and systems are provided to capture a unique product code, such as QR code, on a mobile device, process the information contained in the code, provide the user with options of making a purchase, including purchasing a plurality of selected products from different captured codes, and processing the payment via the user's mobile device.

Claims (50)

1 . A method, comprising:

accessing a machine-readable image that is captured at least in part via an optical module of a mobile computing device of a user;

extracting, from the machine-readable image, first information associated with a product or a service offered by a merchant and second information associated with a transaction interface provided by the merchant for conducting a transaction involving the product or the service, wherein the transaction interface comprises a website of the merchant;

causing, based on the extracted first information and the extracted second information, the mobile computing device to be automatically redirected to the website of the merchant;

predicting, based on input from the user received via the transaction interface, that the user intends to conduct the transaction involving the product or the service;

authenticating the user based on one or more user authentication credentials received from the user; and

processing the transaction after the predicting and the authenticating.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the machine-readable image comprises a Quick Response (QR) code; and

the extracting is performed by decoding the QR code.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the extracted first information comprises a description of the product or the service.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the extracted second information comprises a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) link to the website of the merchant.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the extracted second information comprises a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) link to a website of a manufacturer of the product or a provider of the service.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

one or more of the accessing, the extracting, the causing, the predicting, the authenticating, or the processing is performed by one or more electronic processors of a payment provider that is different from the merchant; and

the processing of the transaction is further based on a determination that the user has a specified agreement with the payment provider to process transactions involving the user and the merchant.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the specified agreement includes a limit on an amount of the transaction.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: sending, based on another input received from the user, at least one of the extracted first information or the extracted second information to a device of another user.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: saving, based on another input received from the user, at least one of the extracted first information or the extracted second information to an electronic storage of the mobile computing device of the user.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

accessing an electronic link that was previously saved to an electronic storage of the mobile computing device, wherein the electronic link was previously obtained based on extracting information from another machine-readable image; and

processing a subsequent transaction associated with the electronic link.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the extracted second information further comprises a name of the merchant or an account number of the merchant for receiving payments.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the machine-readable image is affixed to a tangible medium.

13 . A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that are executable by the processor to cause the system to perform operations comprising:

accessing a two-dimensional product code that has been electronically scanned at least in part via a camera of a mobile computing device of a user;

decoding the two-dimensional product code;

obtaining, based on the decoding, information pertaining to a transaction involving an item offered by a merchant, wherein the information comprises an electronic link to a merchant website that includes the item;

automatically redirecting a user interface of the mobile computing device to the merchant website that includes the item;

determining that the user has initiated a transaction involving the item after the automatically redirecting; and

facilitating the transaction based on the determining.

14 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising a server of a payment provider that is different from the merchant, and wherein the operations further comprise:

prompting the user to enter one or more user authentication credentials for accessing a user account with the payment provider; and

authenticating the user based on the entered one or more user authentication credentials, wherein the facilitating the transaction comprises processing the transaction based on a successful authentication of the user.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the information pertaining to the transaction further comprises a description of the item, a name of the merchant, or an account identifier of the merchant.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise:

transmitting, based on a request from the user, the electronic link to another computing device; or

saving the electronic link to the mobile computing device.

17 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the two-dimensional product code comprises a Quick Response (QR) code that is affixed to a piece of paper, a container, a web page, or the item offered by the merchant.

18 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium having stored thereon machine-readable instructions executable to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:

receiving a Quick Response (QR) code captured by an optical module of a mobile computing device of a user, wherein the QR code has embedded therein information pertaining to an item offered for sale by a merchant;

extracting the information at least in part by decoding the QR code;

causing, based on the extracted information, a user interface of the mobile computing device to automatically load a website of the merchant;

determining, based on an interaction of the user with respect to the website, that the user has initiated a transaction to purchase the item;

authenticating the user with a payment provider based on one or more user authentication credentials received from the user; and

processing the transaction after the user has been successfully authenticated.

19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the operations further comprise saving at least a portion of the extracted information to the mobile computing device that is accessible at later point in time.

20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the extracted information comprises a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the website, a description of the item, a name of the merchant, or an account identifier of the merchant.
