Abstract

Interference-based augmented reality hosting platforms are presented. Hosting platforms can include networking nodes capable of analyzing a digital representation of scene to derive interference among elements of the scene. The hosting platform utilizes the interference to adjust the presence of augmented reality objects within an augmented reality experience. Elements of a scene can constructively interfere, enhancing presence of augmented reality objects; or destructively interfere, suppressing presence of augmented reality objects.

Claims (39)

1 . An augmented reality (AR) content providing system comprising:

at least one computer readable non-transitory memory storing one or more software instructions and an AR object repository comprising a database providing access to available AR objects; and

at least one processor coupled with the at least one computer readable non-transitory memory and configured to perform the following operations upon execution of the one or more software instructions:

obtaining digital data associated with a real-time environment of an AR capable mobile device, the digital data including a device location and at least one virtual element attribute;

determining at least one gaming context related to the AR capable mobile device in the real-time environment based at least in part on the device location;

identifying a subset of relevant AR objects from the AR object repository based on the at least one gaming context;

determining whether to alter a presence along a spectrum of at least one relevant AR object from the subset of relevant AR objects based on at least the device location and the at least one virtual element attribute; and

causing the AR capable mobile device to render the at least one relevant AR object superimposed on a real-world image of the real-time environment and according to the determined altered presence.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual element attribute reflects an AR object present in an augmented reality associated with the real-time environment.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the augmented reality associated with the real-time environment comprises a currently presented augmented reality.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the AR capable mobile device comprise the AR object repository.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one relevant AR object is rendered based on a position of the AR capable mobile device relative to the real-time environment.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one relevant AR object is rendered based on an orientation of the AR capable mobile device relative to the real-time environment.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the rendered at least one relevant AR object superimposed on the real-world image is displayed within an AR game on the AR capable mobile device.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the AR game comprises an overlapping augmented reality among multiple AR capable mobile devices.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the overlapping augmented reality comprises a team-based augmented reality.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein at least some attributes of the available AR objects and the at least one gaming context adhere to a common namespace.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the at least some attributes of the available AR objects and the at least one gaming context include location attributes in the common namespace.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the location attributes are based on GPS coordinates.

13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the rendered at least one relevant AR object is presented at least in part in a haptic format.

14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the determined altered presence comprises an enhanced presence.

15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the determined altered presence comprises a suppressed presence.

16 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the determined altered presence depends on a time.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the determined altered presence changes with the time.

18 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include enabling the AR capable mobile device to conduct a commercial transaction with a commerce engine over a network.

19 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the AR capable mobile device comprises a cell phone.

20 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include enabling one or more interactions with the at least one relevant AR object via the AR capable mobile device, wherein the one or more interactions include at least one of the following: executing instructions of the at least one relevant AR object, presenting AR content via at least one of an audio speaker for AR content having an audio format or a tactile interface for AR content having a haptic format, sharing AR objects with other devices, presenting a purchasable product, shopping, allowing access to data records, allowing a user to link to object information via AR objects, interacting with a remote computing device, and managing AR objects.

21 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing one or more software instructions that, upon execution by one or more processors, perform the following operations:

obtaining digital data associated with a real-time environment of an AR capable mobile device, the digital data including a device location and at least one virtual element attribute;

determining at least one gaming context related to the AR capable mobile device in the real-time environment based at least in part on the device location;

identifying a subset of relevant AR objects from an AR object repository based on the at least one gaming context, wherein the AR object repository comprises a database providing access to one or more available AR objects;

determining whether to alter a presence along a spectrum of at least one relevant AR object from the subset of relevant AR objects based on at least the device location and the at least one virtual element attribute; and

causing the AR capable mobile device to render the at least one relevant AR object superimposed on a real-world image of the real-time environment and according to the determined altered presence.

22 . A method of providing augmented reality (AR) content, the method comprising:

obtaining digital data associated with a real-time environment of an AR capable mobile device, the digital data including a device location and at least one virtual element attribute;

determining at least one gaming context related to the AR capable mobile device in the real-time environment based at least in part on the device location;

identifying a subset of relevant AR objects from an AR object repository based on the at least one gaming context, wherein the AR object repository comprises a database providing access to one or more available AR objects;

determining whether to alter a presence along a spectrum of at least one relevant AR object from the subset of relevant AR objects based on at least the device location and the at least one virtual element attribute; and

causing the AR capable mobile device to render the at least one relevant AR object superimposed on a real-world image of the real-time environment and according to the determined altered presence.
