Abstract

Techniques are disclosed for offloading aircraft data. The aircraft data are received over a network data collection interface associated with an aircraft recording system (ARS). The ARS is adapted to produce aircraft-data messages via a message-broker proxy related to the data received. An associated message is received, and it is determined whether an event has occurred via an event detector process interface. Next, a tag is applied to the event based upon a determination that the event has occurred. The tagged event is then published via the message broker. A published event is received and then recorded to a file via a media recording process interface. It is then determined which data to offload from a recorded event file via a file manager. The associated data is then transmitted via a data offload pathway to a data hub.

Claims (44)

1 . A data-offloading prioritization method for offloading data associated with an aircraft, the method comprising:

receiving, over a network data collection interface, aircraft data via an aircraft-data ingestion process interface of an aircraft recording system (ARS), wherein the ARS comprises a processing unit having a memory for storing software instructions and a processor for executing the instructions;

producing a message via a Pub/Sub inter-process communication (IPC) proxy related to the data received;

receiving the message and determining whether an event has occurred via an event detector process interface;

applying a tag to the event upon a determination that the event has occurred;

publishing a tagged event via the Pub/Sub IPC proxy;

receiving a published event and recording the published event to file via a media recording process interface;

determining what data to offload from a recorded event file via a file manager; and

transmitting the data via a data offload pathway to a data hub.

2 . The data offloading prioritization method of claim 1 , wherein the event detector process interface is an event detector applet.

3 . The data offloading prioritization method of claim 1 , wherein the media recording process interface is a media recorder applet.

4 . The data offloading prioritization method of claim 1 , wherein the network data collection interface comprises a wireless network interface.

5 . The data offloading prioritization method of claim 1 , wherein the network data collection interface comprises a wired network interface.

6 . The data offloading prioritization method of claim 5 , wherein the wired network interface is an Ethernet interface.

7 . The data offloading prioritization method of claim 1 , wherein the data offload pathway is a data-offload wireless network interface.

8 . An aircraft-data offloading prioritization device for offloading data associated with an aircraft, the aircraft-data offloading prioritization device comprising:

an aircraft data collection interface adapted to transmit, over a network data collection interface, aircraft data via an aircraft-data ingestion process interface of an aircraft recording system (ARS), wherein the ARS comprises a processing unit having a memory for storing software instructions and a processor for executing the instructions;

an aircraft data transmitter adapted to transmit a message related to the data received, via one or more proxies associated with a message broker,

wherein the ARS receives the message and determines whether an event has occurred via an event detector process interface,

wherein applying a tag to the event based on the event detector process interface includes determining that the event has occurred to produce a tagged event, and

wherein the message broker publishes a new message associated with the tagged event to produce a published event message; and

an event receiver adapted to receive the published event message and to record the published event message via a media recording process interface,

wherein the ARS identifies tagged aircraft data to offload from a recorded event file via a file manager, and

wherein the ARS transmits the tagged aircraft data via a data offload pathway to a data hub.

9 . The aircraft-data offloading prioritization device of claim 8 , wherein the event detector process interface is an event detector applet.

10 . The aircraft-data offloading prioritization device of claim 8 , wherein the message broker comprises a Pub/Sub inter-process communication (IPC) proxy.

11 . The aircraft-data offloading prioritization device of claim 8 , wherein the aircraft-data ingestion process interface comprises a data ingestion applet.

12 . The aircraft-data offloading prioritization device of claim 8 , wherein the media recording process interface comprises a media recording applet.

13 . The aircraft-data offloading prioritization device of claim 8 , wherein the data offload pathway comprises a wireless network.

14 . The aircraft-data offloading prioritization device of claim 8 , wherein the data offload pathway comprises a wired network.

15 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, perform a method for data-offloading prioritization for offloading data associated with an aircraft, the method comprising:

receiving, over a network data collection interface, aircraft data via an aircraft-data ingestion process interface of an aircraft recording system (ARS), wherein the ARS comprises a processing unit having a memory for storing software instructions and a processor for executing the instructions;

producing a message via a Pub/Sub IPC proxy related to the data received;

receiving the message and determining whether an event has occurred via an event detector process interface;

applying a tag to the event upon a determination that the event has occurred;

publishing a tagged event via the Pub/Sub IPC proxy;

receiving a published event and recording the published event to file via a media recording process interface;

determining what data to offload from a recorded event file via a file manager; and

transmitting the data via a data offload pathway to a data hub.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the ARS is a component of an ARS complex, the ARS complex further comprising a physical interface, a power indicator, and a status indicator.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the tag is applied to one or more prioritized aircraft events, wherein the one or more prioritized aircraft events are prioritized based on a time-critical attribute associated with the one or more prioritized aircraft events.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein recording the published event to file via a media recording process interface comprises persisting metadata associated with the published event to one or more non-volatile memories associated with the ARS.
