Abstract

Embodiments include a wireless microphone comprising an elongated main body configured for handheld operation of the microphone; a display bezel area included in the main body; a first antenna positioned at a bottom end of the main body; and a second antenna integrated into the display bezel area. Embodiments also include a wireless handheld microphone comprising a main body having a conductive housing and a tubular shape configured for handheld operation of the microphone; an opening included on a side surface of the conductive housing; a non-conductive cover coupled to the conductive housing and configured to cover the opening; and an antenna positioned adjacent to the non-conductive cover.

Claims (39)

1 . A wireless microphone, comprising:

an elongated main body configured for handheld operation of the wireless microphone;

a display bezel area included in a side surface of the main body and positioned near a top end of the main body;

a first antenna positioned at a bottom end of the main body;

a second antenna integrated into the display bezel area and configured as a modified curved planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA);

a printed circuit board (PCB) comprising circuitry components to enable operation of the second antenna; and

a connection pin configured to electrically couple the second antenna to the PCB and provide a feed point for the second antenna, the connection pin being coupled to a ground plane of the second antenna by an inductor.

2 . The wireless microphone of claim 1 , wherein the second antenna is located under an outer cover of the display bezel area.

3 . The wireless microphone of claim 2 , wherein the second antenna is disposed on a support structure configured to position the second antenna against an underside of the outer cover.

4 . The wireless microphone of claim 3 , wherein the outer cover and the support structure comprise one or more non-conductive materials, and the main body comprises a conductive enclosure.

5 . The wireless microphone of claim 4 , wherein the one or more non-conductive materials are dielectric materials configured to increase an electrical length of the second antenna.

6 . The wireless microphone of claim 1 , wherein the inductor comprises two inductors connected in parallel.

7 . The wireless microphone of claim 1 , wherein the second antenna is configured for operation upon detecting obstruction of the first antenna.

8 . The wireless microphone of claim 1 , wherein the second antenna is configured for operation during a switching diversity mode of the wireless microphone.

9 . A wireless device, comprising:

a main body;

an opening within a side surface of the main body;

at least one antenna disposed within the opening;

at least one printed circuit board (PCB) configured to enable operation of the at least one antenna, wherein the at least one antenna comprises a modified planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) structure formed by a single conductive element, a connection element coupled between the conductive element and the at least one PCB to form an antenna feed point, and at least one inductor configured to couple the connection element to a ground plane of the at least one antenna; and

an outer cover, covering the opening, comprising a dielectric material configured to increase an electrical length of the antenna.

10 . The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the at least one inductor includes two inductors connected in parallel between the antenna feed point and the ground plane of the at least one antenna.

11 . The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the main body includes a conductive enclosure that serves as the ground plane of the at least one antenna.

12 . The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the connection element includes a pogo pin.

13 . The wireless device of claim 9 , further comprising an antenna support structure disposed within the opening to position the at least one antenna against an underside of the outer cover.

14 . The wireless device of claim 9 , further comprising a display screen disposed within the opening and adjacent to the at least one antenna without overlap.

15 . The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the conductive element has an elongated curved shape, and wherein the conductive element comprises:

a fixed end coupled to the connection element, and

a free end extending across the at least one PCB.

16 . A wireless device, comprising:

a main body;

an opening within a side surface of the main body;

an antenna, disposed within the opening, comprising a modified planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) structure, wherein the modified PIFA structure comprises:

a radiating portion comprising a conductive element coupled to a connection element, and

an impedance matching portion comprising at least one inductor coupled to the connection element; and

a dielectric structure configured to support the radiating portion, wherein the dielectric structure comprises a dielectrically-loaded material configured to extend an electrical length of the conductive element,

wherein the antenna further comprises an antenna feed point formed by electrically coupling the connection element to a printed circuit board (PCB).

17 . The wireless device of claim 16 , wherein a length of the conductive element is configured to enable operation in at least one of: 1.5 Gigahertz (GHz) frequency band, 1.8 GHz frequency band, 2.4 GHz frequency band, 5.7 GHz frequency band, 6.9 GHz frequency band, or 7.1 GHz frequency band.

18 . The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the modified PIFA structure is curved.

19 . The wireless device of claim 16 , wherein the modified PIFA structure is curved.
