Abstract

A location of a computing device may be determined by determining the range of a communication. Several different wireless communication protocols and/or wireless networks (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Cellular, and/or GPS) may be used to determine the user's location. When the user's location is determined, one or more actions (e.g., granting access to content) may be performed based on the user's location.

Claims (50)

1 . A method comprising:

determining, based on a signal strength of a wireless transmission between a user device and a locating device indicating that the user device is within a proximity of the locating device, that the user device is at a location associated with the locating device; and

based on the user device being at the location, causing performance of a command for the user device, wherein a characteristic of the command is based on the location.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic of the command comprises at least one of:

a list of content to be sent to the user device at the location, or

an authorization for viewing content at the location.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless transmission comprises at least one of:

a BLUETOOTH transmission, or

a WI-FI transmission.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, based on a second signal strength of a second wireless transmission between the user device and a second locating device, that the user device is within a second proximity of the second locating device,

wherein the performance of the command is based on comparing the proximity and the second proximity.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the command comprises a command to turn on a display device associated with the location.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the user device is at the location further comprises determining, based on a user input, that the user device is at the location.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a user profile associated with the user device; and

determining, based on the user profile, the command.

8 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:

determining, based on a signal strength of a wireless transmission between a user device and a locating device indicating that the user device is within a proximity of the locating device, that the user device is at a location associated with the locating device; and

based on the user device being at the location, causing performance of a command for the user device, wherein a characteristic of the command is based on the location.

9 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the characteristic of the command comprises at least one of:

a list of content to be sent to the user device at the location, or

an authorization for viewing content at the location.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the wireless transmission comprises at least one of:

a BLUETOOTH transmission, or

a WI-FI transmission.

11 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause:

determining, based on a second signal strength of a second wireless transmission between the user device and a second locating device, that the user device is within a second proximity of the second locating device,

wherein the performance of the command is based on comparing the proximity and the second proximity.

12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the command comprises a command to turn on a display device associated with the location.

13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause determining that the user device is at the location by determining, based on a user input, that the user device is at the location.

14 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause:

determining a user profile associated with the user device; and

determining, based on the user profile, the command.

15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the user profile is stored in a cloud computing environment.

16 . An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:

determine, based on a signal strength of a wireless transmission between a user device and a locating device indicating that the user device is within a proximity of the locating device, that the user device is at a location associated with the locating device; and

based on the user device being at the location, cause performance of a command for the user device, wherein a characteristic of the command is based on the location.

17 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the wireless transmission comprises at least one of:

a BLUETOOTH transmission, or

a WI-FI transmission.

18 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the apparatus to:

determine, based on a second signal strength of a second wireless transmission between the user device and a second locating device, that the user device is within a second proximity of the second locating device,

wherein the performance of the command is based on comparing the proximity and the second proximity.

19 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the command comprises a command to turn on a display device associated with the location.

20 . The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the apparatus to:

determine a user profile associated with the user device, wherein the user profile is stored in a cloud computing environment; and

determine, based on the user profile, the command.
