Abstract

In one implementation, a wireless security system premises gateway component includes a first local area wireless communication component adapted to communicate wirelessly with plural wireless security system sensors distributed at a premises; a second local area wireless communication component adapted to communicate wirelessly with a general purpose mobile communications device; a communications interface component adapted to communicate with a wide area communications network that is located remotely of the premises; a security system controller component adapted to communicate with the general purpose mobile communications device to provide state information regarding the security system and to provide control inputs to the security system; and a single gateway housing configured and sized to house the first local area wireless communication component, the second local area wireless communication component, the communications interface component, and the security system controller.

Claims (50)

1 . A security system comprising:

a security system control device, the security system control device comprising:

an input mechanism for receiving user input;

a communication mechanism for transmitting the user input to a security system gateway, and for receiving information from the security system gateway; and

an output mechanism for presenting the information from the security system gateway, wherein the output mechanism of the security system control device comprises a visual display component; and

the security system gateway that is located at a premises and that is configured to communicate with (i) a security system that is located at the premises, (ii) an internet of things (IoT) ecosystem that is located at the premises, (iii) the security system control device that is located at the premises, and (iv) a security system control application that is executed by a mobile device, wherein the security system gateway is configured to perform operations comprising:

performing a local enrollment of the mobile device, comprising:

receiving, from the security system control application of the mobile device, an initial request to enroll the mobile device with the security system gateway;

in response to receiving the initial request to enroll the mobile device, establishing a wireless connection with the mobile device;

receiving, from the security system control application of the mobile device over the wireless connection, a full enrollment request comprising user security credentials that have been encrypted by the mobile device with a public key of the security system gateway;

decrypting the user security credentials with a public key of the security system gateway; and

in response to validating the decrypted user security, (i) encrypting system information of the security system gateway, and (ii) transmitting the encrypted system information to the mobile device;

receiving, from the security system control application of the mobile device, a mobile control command;

transmitting the mobile control command to a security system device of the security system or an IoT device of the IoT ecosystem;

receiving status information indicating that adjustments have been performed to the security system device or the IoT device, in response to the mobile control command; and

transmitting the status information for presentation at the output mechanism of the security system control device.

2 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the security system gateway does not include a visual display component providing a graphical user interface.

3 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the input mechanism of the security system control device comprises physical buttons and/or capacitive touch sensors.

4 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is located at the premises.

5 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is remote from the premises.

6 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile control command is automatically triggered, based on a detection of the mobile device arriving at the premises.

7 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile control command is based on user input provided at the mobile device.

8 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein communication between the security system gateway and the mobile device occurs wirelessly over a local area network, in response to a detection of the mobile device being located at the premises.

9 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein communication between the security system gateway and the mobile device occurs wirelessly over a wide area network, in response to a detection of the mobile device being remote from the premises.

10 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein communication between the security system gateway and the security system control device occurs wirelessly over a local area network, and communication between the security system gateway and the mobile device occurs wirelessly over a wide area network.

11 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein communication between the security system gateway and the security system occurs over a local area network.

12 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein communication between the security system gateway and the IoT ecosystem occurs over a local area network.

13 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein security system devices of the security system are different from IoT devices of the IoT ecosystem.

14 . The security system of claim 13 , wherein the security system devices include one or more of security sensors, or security alarms.

15 . The security system of claim 13 , wherein IoT devices include one or more of temperature controls, lighting controls, or appliance controls.

16 . The security system of claim 1 , wherein the initial request to enroll the mobile device comprises a hash value of the user security credentials and the full enrollment request comprises a non-hashed value of the user security credentials.

17 . A security system comprising:

a security system control device, the security system control device comprising:

an input mechanism for receiving user input, wherein the input mechanism comprises physical buttons and/or capacitive touch sensors;

a communication mechanism for transmitting the user input to a security system gateway, and for receiving information from the security system gateway; and

an output mechanism for presenting the information from the security system gateway; and

the security system gateway that is located at a premises and that is configured to communicate with (i) a security system that is located at the premises, (ii) an internet of things (IoT) ecosystem that is located at the premises, (iii) the security system control device that is located at the premises, and (iv) a security system control application that is executed by a mobile device, wherein the security system gateway being is configured to perform operations comprising:

performing a local enrollment of the mobile device, comprising:

receiving, from the security system control application of the mobile device, an initial request to enroll the mobile device with the security system gateway;

in response to receiving the initial request to enroll the mobile device, establishing a wireless connection with the mobile device;
