Abstract

An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: an aerosol-generating substrate; a downstream section extending from a downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to a downstream end of the aerosol-generating article; and an upstream section extending from an upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to an upstream end of the aerosol-generating article, a ratio of a resistance-to-draw of the upstream section to a resistance-to-draw of the downstream section being more than 1, and the resistance-to-draw of the upstream section being no more than 150 mm H 2 O. An aerosol-generating system including an aerosol-generating device including a heater, and an aerosol-generating article, is also provided.

Claims (38)

1 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:

an aerosol-generating substrate;

a downstream section extending from a downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to a downstream end of the aerosol-generating article; and

an upstream section extending from an upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to an upstream end of the aerosol-generating article,

wherein a ratio of a resistance-to-draw of the upstream section to a resistance-to-draw of the downstream section is more than 1, and

wherein the resistance-to-draw of the upstream section is no more than 150 mm H 2 O.

2 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the resistance-to-draw of the downstream section is less than 150 mm H 2 O.

3 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the resistance-to-draw of the upstream section is at least 5 mm H 2 O.

4 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the resistance-to-draw of the upstream section is between 5 mm H 2 O and 80 mm H 2 O.

5 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the upstream section comprises a plug comprising cellulose acetate.

6 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 5 , wherein the plug comprising cellulose acetate abuts the upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate.

7 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the upstream section has a length of between 1 millimetre and 15 millimetres.

8 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein a total resistance-to-draw of the aerosol-generating article is between 1 mm H 2 O and 25 mm H 2 O.

9 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the downstream section comprises an unobstructed airflow pathway from the downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to the downstream end of the downstream section.

10 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 9 , wherein the unobstructed airflow pathway from the downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to the downstream end of the downstream section has a minimum diameter of 3 millimetres.

11 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the downstream section comprises a hollow tubular element.

12 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the downstream section has a length of at least 15 millimetres.

13 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the downstream section comprises a first ventilation zone configured to provide ventilation into the downstream section.

14 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 13 , wherein the first ventilation zone comprises a first line of perforation holes circumscribing the downstream section.

15 . An aerosol-generating system, comprising,

an aerosol-generating device comprising a heater; and

an aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 .

16 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:

an aerosol-generating substrate;

a downstream section extending from a downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to a downstream end of the aerosol-generating article; and

an upstream section extending from an upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to an upstream end of the aerosol-generating article,

wherein the upstream section comprises a plug made of a filter material,

wherein the plug made of a filter material abuts the upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate,

wherein a ratio of a resistance-to-draw of the upstream section to a resistance-to-draw of the downstream section is more than 1, and

wherein the resistance-to-draw of the upstream section is no more than 150 mm H 2 O.

17 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:

an aerosol-generating substrate;

a downstream section extending from a downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to a downstream end of the aerosol-generating article; and

an upstream section extending from an upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate to an upstream end of the aerosol-generating article,

wherein the upstream section comprises a plug comprising cellulose acetate,

wherein the plug comprising cellulose acetate abuts the upstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate,

wherein a ratio of a resistance-to-draw of the upstream section to a resistance-to-draw of the downstream section is more than 1, and

wherein the resistance-to-draw of the upstream section is no more than 150 mm H 2 O.
