Abstract

An aerosol-generating system is provided, including an aerosol-generating device and an aerosol-forming substrate, the aerosol-generating device including: a holding and exposing space configured to receive an aerosol-forming substrate; and an electromagnetic field generator configured to generate a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field in the holding and exposing space, the aerosol-forming substrate being configured to be received in the holding and exposing space, the aerosol-forming substrate including or contained within a liquid-filled capsule or a gel-filled capsule, the liquid-filled capsule or gel-filled capsule being configured to rupture when the liquid or the gel is dielectrically heated by the RF electromagnetic field in the holding and exposing space. A method for generating an aerosol from an aerosol-forming substrate is also provided. A capsule for insertion into a holding and exposing space of an aerosol-generating device is also provided.
