Abstract

A hair care appliance and methods for drying and/or styling hair are provided. The hair care appliance includes a handle having an inlet and a body coupled to the handle and having a plurality of outlets. The handle can include a fan assembly and a motor assembly and the applicant can include one or more heater assemblies. In one embodiment, the appliance includes at least one heater assembly extending along the body between the proximal and distal ends. In some aspects, the at least one heater assembly can longitudinally separate a first plurality of bristles from a second plurality of bristles. In other embodiments, a baffle for directing airflow is provided. In other embodiments, the appliance is configured to switch between hair drying and hair heating modes.

Claims (29)

1 . A hair care appliance, comprising:

a handle having proximal and distal ends extending in a longitudinal direction with an air inlet at the proximal end, the handle including a fan assembly, a motor assembly, and a first heater assembly; and

a body having at least one pair of opposing surfaces and a lumen therebetween, at least one second heater assembly radially offset from the opposing surfaces and comprising a plurality of curved heated plates spaced apart from one another and defining an elongated channel between adjacent curved heated plates for receiving hair, the body further comprising a proximal end, and a distal end extending in the longitudinal direction, the proximal end of the body being coupled to the distal end of the handle, the body including

a plurality of bristles positioned along a length of the body and projecting outward from the at least one pair of opposing surfaces,

a plurality of outlets formed in the at least one pair of opposing surfaces along a length of the body for allowing airflow therethrough, and

a baffle having a planar element including opposing surfaces and positioned centrally within the lumen along a fluid flow path extending from the air inlet in the handle to the plurality of outlets in the body, each of the opposing sides of the baffle including a plurality of vane pairs spaced longitudinally along the opposing surfaces, wherein each of the plurality of vane pairs includes first and second vanes separated from one another, the first and second vanes being substantially aligned, axially such that a continuous longitudinal gap extends along the planar element between respective vanes of the vane pairs positioned on the opposing surfaces, the continuous longitudinal gap disposed centrally along each of the opposing surfaces of the planar element, and the plurality of vane pairs being configured to divert an amount of fluid flow within the fluid flow path toward the plurality of outlets, the amount of fluid flow increasing from a proximal end of the baffle to a distal end of the baffle.

2 . The hair care appliance of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of vane pairs extend from the opposing surfaces of the central planar element into the lumen.

3 . The hair care appliance of claim 1 , wherein a width of the continuous longitudinal gap tapers from the proximal end of the baffle to the distal end of the baffle.

4 . The hair care appliance of claim 1 , wherein each vane of the plurality of vane pairs includes a fluid engagement portion positioned closer to a central longitudinal axis of the body and a fluid diversion portion positioned radially outward of the fluid engagement portion and closer to the plurality of outlets.

5 . The hair care appliance of claim 4 , wherein the fluid engagement portion and the fluid diversion portion are angled relative to one another.

6 . The hair care appliance of claim 4 , wherein the fluid engagement portion of the plurality of vane pairs increases in length from a proximal end of the baffle to the distal end of the baffle.

7 . The hair care appliance of claim 1 , wherein a size of the continuous longitudinal gap decreases from the proximal end of the baffle to the distal end of the baffle.

8 . The hair care appliance of claim 1 , wherein respective surface areas of the plurality of vane pairs increases from the proximal end to the distal end of the baffle.

9 . The hair care appliance of claim 1 , wherein the body includes first and second bristle frames each having a plurality of bristles extending therefrom, and wherein the baffle is positioned between the first and second bristle frames.

10 . A hair care appliance, comprising:

a handle extending in a longitudinal direction, having a fan assembly and a first heater assembly disposed therein, the fan assembly being configured to draw air into the handle through an air inlet and to direct air along a longitudinal airflow path into the first heater assembly, and the first heater assembly being configured to heat the air; and

a body extending in the longitudinal direction, coupled to the handle and having a first side and a second side opposite the first side, the body comprising a second heater assembly on a third side of the body between the first side of the body and the second side of the body, the second heater assembly comprising a plurality of heated plates alternatingly disposed between a plurality of non-heated plates of the second heater assembly, the body having an inner lumen configured to receive heated air from the first heater assembly, the body including a baffle disposed within the inner lumen, the baffle comprising a central support having first and second sides, each side including a plurality of vane pairs spaced longitudinally and projecting therefrom, wherein each of the plurality of vane pairs includes first and second vanes separated from one another, the first and second vanes being substantially aligned, axially; and

a single, continuous channel extending longitudinally between opposing vanes of the vane pairs, the baffle being configured to divert an amount of heated air flowing longitudinally through the channel radially outward toward a plurality of openings formed in the body, the amount of heated air being diverted increasing longitudinally from a first end of the body coupled to the handle to a second end of the body.

11 . The hair care appliance of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of vane pairs are spaced longitudinally along a length of the central support between a proximal end and a distal end of the central support.

12 . The hair care appliance of claim 11 , wherein respective vanes of the plurality of vane pairs increase in length from the proximal end to the distal end of the central support.

13 . The hair care appliance of claim 10 , wherein the baffle is configured to evenly distribute the amount of heated air longitudinally through the plurality of openings from the first end of the body to the second end of the body.
