Abstract

A scar subcision devices comprising a first elongated element comprising a pivotal connection to a second elongated element, the first elongated element having a blunt distal end, the second elongated element having a proximal-facing cutting edge at a distal end thereof, the device having a first state wherein the cutting edge is retracted to a location within an outer perimeter of the first elongated element, and a second state wherein the cutting edge is exposed outside of the outer perimeter of the first elongated element and the device transitioning between the first state and the second state by the first elongated element and the second elongated element rotating relative to each other about the pivotal connection are disclosed. Methods are also disclosed.

Claims (40)

1 . A subcision device having a closed state and a cutting state, the subcision device comprising:

a first element having a blunt surface and defining a longitudinal axis; and

a cutting element coupled to the first element via a hinge, the cutting element including a shaft and a blade,

wherein, in the closed state, the blade is substantially within an outer perimeter of the first element,

wherein, in the cutting state, the blade is exposed and extends laterally from the shaft away from the longitudinal axis of the first element and outside of the outer perimeter of the first element with the blade rear-facing and forming an acute angle with the longitudinal axis, and retraction of the subcision device in the cutting state is configured to cut a tissue with the blade, and

wherein rotation of the cutting element relative to the first element about the hinge is configured to transition the subcision device between the closed state and the cutting state.

2 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the blade is disposed adjacent a distal end of the cutting element.

3 . The subcision device of claim 1 , further comprising a transitioning governor configured to limit the rotation of the first element relative to the cutting element.

4 . The subcision device of claim 1 , further comprising a biasing member configured to bias the subcision device to the closed state.

5 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the blunt surface and cutting element reside in parallel planes.

6 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the blunt surface and cutting element rotate in parallel planes.

7 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the first element overlays the cutting element to present a configuration without exposed sharp edges.

8 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the cutting element is exposed when the first element passes over and beyond the cutting element.

9 . The subcision device of claim 1 , further comprising a passageway having an inlet adjacent a proximal end of the subcision device and an outlet adjacent a rounded blunt leading end of the subcision device, wherein the passageway is configured to deliver adipocytes from the inlet to the outlet.

10 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the cutting element includes a hook having the blade.

11 . The subcision device of claim 1 , wherein the blade is sharp.

12 . A system comprising:

the subcision device of claim 1 ; and

a syringe containing adipocytes.

13 . A subcision device having a closed state and a cutting state, the subcision device comprising:

a first element having a blunt surface and defining a longitudinal axis; and

a cutting element coupled to the first element via a pivotal connection, the cutting element including a shaft and a cutting edge,

wherein, in the closed state, the cutting edge is substantially within an outer perimeter of the first element,

wherein, in the cutting state, the cutting edge is exposed and extends laterally from the shaft away from the longitudinal axis of the first element and outside of the outer perimeter of the first element with the cutting edge rear-facing and forming an acute angle with the longitudinal axis, and retraction of the subcision device in the cutting state is configured to cut a tissue with the cutting edge, and

wherein rotation of the cutting element relative to the first element about the pivotal connection is configured to transition the subcision device between the closed state and the cutting state.

14 . The subcision device of claim 13 , further comprising a biasing member configured to bias the subcision device to the closed state.

15 . The subcision device of claim 13 , further comprising a transitioning governor configured to limit the rotation of the first element relative to the cutting element.

16 . The subcision device of claim 13 , wherein the blunt surface and cutting element reside in parallel planes.

17 . The subcision device of claim 13 , wherein the blunt surface and cutting element rotate in parallel planes.

18 . The subcision device of claim 13 , wherein the first element overlays the cutting element to present a configuration without exposed sharp edges.

19 . The subcision device of claim 13 , wherein the cutting element is exposed when the first element passes over and beyond the cutting element.

20 . The subcision device of claim 13 , further comprising an orifice extending from a proximal portion of the subcision device to a distal portion of the subcision device, wherein the orifice is configured to deliver adipocytes from at the proximal portion to the distal portion.

21 . The subcision device of claim 20 , wherein the proximal portion is a proximal end of the subcision device.

22 . The subcision device of claim 20 , wherein the orifice is a bore.

23 . The subcision device of claim 20 , wherein the orifice is a groove.

24 . The subcision device of claim 13 , wherein the cutting element includes a hook having the cutting edge.

25 . The subcision device of claim 13 , wherein the cutting edge is sharp.

26 . A system comprising:

the subcision device of claim 13 ; and

a syringe containing adipocytes.
