Abstract

Systems, assemblies, devices, and methods for positioning surgical devices at surgical sites are disclosed. An adjustment assembly may include a first connector configured to connect to a surgical articulating arm and a second connector configured to connect to a tool, such as a surgical access tube. A joint assembly may be coupled to the first connector and an elongated assembly may be coupled to the joint assembly and the second connector. An actuator may be coupled to the joint assembly and may be adjusted to secure the elongated assembly in a desired position. One or more clips may be utilized with a surgical access tube to secure a surgical tool within a surgical access tube. The clip may have a single port or more than one port.

Claims (38)

1 . An apparatus for use in spinal surgery, comprising:

a body having an exterior wall adapted to be inserted into a tube of a surgical access tube assembly, the exterior wall defining a tubular axis and extending circumferentially around the tubular axis, a portion of the circumferentially extending exterior wall extending radially inwardly and then outwardly to define one or more ports between the exterior wall and the tube of the surgical access tube assembly, the one or more ports adapted to hold one or more surgical instruments, the body being rotatable about the tubular axis when inserted into the tube;

a first wing extending radially outward from the body;

a second wing extending radially outward from the body; and

wherein the first wing and the second wing are configured to rest on the tube and the body is configured to be positioned within the tube when the first wing and the second wing are resting on the tube, and

wherein the body, the first wing, the second wing, and the one or more ports are unitarily formed.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body applies a radially outward force on an inner surface of the tube when the first wing and the second wing are resting on the tube.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more ports define a space between an outer surface of the body and an inner surface of the tube configured to receive a surgical tool.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body is configured to flex inward in response to radially inward forces applied to the first wing and the second wing.

5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more ports comprise a first port and a second port.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first wing and the second wing are configured to rest on a top edge of the tube and both an inner and outer surfaces of the exterior wall extend radially inwardly and then outwardly to define the one or more ports.

7 . An apparatus, comprising:

a tube of a surgical access tube assembly, the tube having a first opening and a second opening;

a body having an exterior wall adapted to be inserted into the tube, the exterior wall defining a tubular axis and extending circumferentially around the tubular axis, a portion of the circumferentially extending exterior wall extending radially inwardly and then outwardly to define one or more ports between the exterior wall and the tube, the one or more ports adapted to hold one or more surgical instruments, the body being rotatable about the tubular axis when inserted into the tube;

a first wing extending radially outward from the body;

a second wing extending radially outward from the body; and

wherein the first wing and the second wing rest on the tube of a surgical access tube assembly,

wherein the body is positioned within the tube, and

wherein the apparatus is coupled to an elongated assembly,

wherein the elongated assembly is configured to be attachable to a robotic articulating arm for use in spinal surgery.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the body, the first wing, the second wing, and the one or more ports are unitarily formed.

9 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the body applies a radially outward force on an inner surface of the tube when the first wing and the second wing are resting on the tube.

10 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the body is configured to flex inward in response to radially inward forces applied to the first wing and the second wing.

11 . The apparatus of any one of claim 7 , wherein the one or more ports comprise a first port and a second port.

12 . An apparatus, comprising:

a body having an exterior wall adapted to be inserted into a tube of a surgical access tube assembly, the exterior wall defining a tubular axis and extending circumferentially around the tubular axis;

a first wing extending radially outward from the body;

a second wing extending radially outward from the body;

wherein a first portion of the circumferentially extending exterior wall extends radially inwardly and then outwardly to define a first curved port between the exterior wall and the tube of the surgical access tube assembly

wherein a second portion of the circumferentially extending exterior wall extends radially inwardly and then outwardly to define a second curved port between the exterior wall and the tube of the surgical access tube assembly, the first and second ports adapted to hold one or more surgical instruments, the body being rotatable about the tubular axis when inserted into the tube;

wherein the body, the first wing, the second wing, and the one or more ports are unitarily formed,

wherein the first wing and the second wing are configured to rest on a tube of a surgical access tube assembly and the body is configured to be positioned within the tube when the first wing and the second wing are resting on the tube,

wherein the apparatus is coupled to an elongated assembly,

wherein the elongated assembly is configured to be attachable to a robotic articulating arm for use in spinal surgery.

13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the body applies a radially outward force on an inner surface of the tube when the first wing and the second wing are resting on the tube.

14 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the first and second ports each define a space between an outer surface of the body and an inner surface of the tube.

15 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the body is configured to flex inward in response to radially inward forces applied to the first wing and the second wing.

16 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the first wing and the second wing are configured to rest on a top edge of the tube.
