Tools for transurethral deployment and fixation of graft for the management and treatment of urethral strictures
An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a device and method for the treatment of urethral stricture. The present invention places and holds a graft at an incised urethral stricture site for 5-21 days, while the graft adherences to the incised urethral stricture site. A device of the present invention includes a delivery component, a graft carrier component, and a removal component. In some embodiments, the delivery and removal components may be combined into the same device. The delivery component, the graft carrier component, and the removal component are all configured to enter and exit the urethra without trauma. A method according to an embodiment of the present invention includes harvesting a graft, loading the graft onto the graft carrier component, introducing the delivery device into the urethra with the graft carrier component and graft loaded, and delivering of the graft to the incised urethral stricture site.
1 . A device, comprising:
a component configured to expand when placed at a site within a lumen,
wherein the component comprises at least a first portion and a second portion,
wherein the component is configured to expand based on the first portion and the second portion moving in a direction perpendicular to a length of the component on at least one side, away from each other,
wherein the length of the component is longer than a width of the component,
wherein the first portion is associated with a first set of interleaved arc components and the second portion is associated with a second set of interleaved arc components,
wherein the first set and the second set are configured to collapse towards each other or move away from each other,
wherein the first portion and the second portion are separate components,
wherein only the first portion holds a treatment material for placement at the lumen, and
wherein the second portion is configured to be in direct contact with the lumen and fixate the component within the lumen by surface characteristics of the second portion.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the component expands based on movement associated with at least a first end of the first portion and at least a second end of the second portion.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the component expands based on a first end of the first portion and a second end of the second portion moving towards each other or based on the first end of the first portion and the second end of the second portion moving away from each other.
4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first portion and the second portion of the component comprise a locking mechanism for joining the first portion and the second portion into a single part.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first set and the second set are configured to collapse towards each other or move away from each other based on a rotational motion.
6 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a fixation component,
wherein the device is fixated at the site by the fixation component.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the treatment material is secured on the first portion.
8 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a channel.
9 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the channel is associated with passage of urine.
10 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the channel is associated with urological instruments.
11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first portion and the second portion do not overlap each other in the perpendicular direction of the movement.
12 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first portion and the second portion separate from each other during expansion.
13 . A method, comprising:
securing a treatment material to a first portion of a component,
wherein the component comprises at least the first portion and a second portion, and
wherein the first portion is associated with holding the treatment material for placement at a site within a lumen;
expanding the component at the site within the lumen,
wherein the component expands based on the first portion and the second portion moving in a direction perpendicular to a length of the component on at least one side, away from each other,
wherein the length of the component is longer than a width of the component,
wherein the first portion is associated with a first set of interleaved arc components and the second portion is associated with a second set of interleaved arc components,
wherein the first set and the second set are configured to collapse towards each other or move away from each other, and
wherein the first portion and the second portion are separate components,
wherein the treatment material is secured only on the first portion for placement at the lumen, and
wherein the second portion is configured to be in direct contact with the lumen and fixate the component within the lumen by surface characteristics of the second portion.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the component expands based on movement associated with at least a first end of the first portion and at least a second end of the second portion.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the component expands based on a first end of the first portion and a second end of the second portion moving towards each other or based on the first end of the first portion and the second end of the second portion moving away from each other.
