Abstract

A lift system includes a support configured to maintain a bed frame thereon. The support is defined by a first swing arm opposing a second swing arm and a pivoting plate opposing an end plate. First ends of the swing arms are configured to swing outward about ends of the pivoting plate. Second ends of the swing arms removably attach to the end plate to form a rectangular structure for securely receiving a bed frame. The lift system also includes a storage unit defined by a lift gate configured within an interior of the storage unit. The lift gate includes a linear actuator for converting the support between a folded and an unfolded position by manipulating the pivoting plate coupled to the linear actuator. A controller is provided for controlling the lift gate.

Claims (25)

1 . A lift system comprising:

a support configured to engage a bed frame, the support defined by:

a pair of opposing arms to engage the bed frame, each having a first end and an opposed second end,

wherein the second end of each of the pair of opposing arms is configured to be removably affixed to another of the pair of opposing arms; and

a storage unit having walls enclosing an interior space and comprising a lift gate configured to move the support between a folded position, wherein the second end of each of the pair of opposing arms is disposed within the interior space, and an unfolded position, wherein the second end of each of the pair of opposing arms extends away from the storage unit,

wherein the first end of each of the pair of opposing arms is affixed to the lift gate,

wherein the lift gate comprises a lock configured to secure the support in at least one of the folded position and the unfolded position,

wherein one of the pair of opposing arms is configured to pivot away from the other of the pair of opposing arms when the second end of each of the pair of opposing arms are unaffixed to disengage the bed frame, and

wherein the support further comprises a handle disposed at an end of the support adjacent to the second end of each of the pair of opposing arms, and wherein the handle is in operative communication with the lock.

2 . The lift system of claim 1 , further comprising a bed frame received between the pair of opposing arms of the support.

3 . The lift system of claim 2 , further comprising an end plate removably affixed to the second ends of the pair of opposing arms to secure the pair of opposing arms together in a rectangular structure that retains the engaged bed frame.

4 . The lift system of claim 2 , wherein the storage unit is further configured such that the support and the engaged bed frame are enclosed within the interior space in the folded position.

5 . The lift system of claim 1 , wherein the lift gate further comprises a spring configured to move the support between the folded position and the unfolded position.

6 . The lift system of claim 5 , wherein the lift gate further comprises a brace member affixed to the first end of each of the pair of opposing arms, wherein a portion of the brace member is connected to the spring.

7 . The lift system of claim 1 , wherein the lift gate further comprises a motor configured to move the support between the folded position and the unfolded position.

8 . The lift system of claim 7 , wherein the lift gate further comprises a brace member affixed to the first end of each of the pair of opposing arms, wherein a portion of the brace member is connected to the motor.

9 . The lift system of claim 7 , wherein the motor comprises a linear actuator.

10 . The lift system of claim 7 , further comprising a controller in operative communication with the motor, wherein the controller is configured to operate the motor based on user input.

11 . The lift system of claim 10 , wherein the controller is in operative communication with a controller access switch configured to accept user input.

12 . The lift system of claim 1 , wherein the storage unit further comprises a cabinet lock for securing contents therein from unauthorized access.

13 . The lift system of claim 1 , wherein the storage unit further comprises one or more front doors configured to be maneuvered from a peripheral position, adjacent a front opening of the storage unit, into the interior space.

14 . The lift system of claim 13 , wherein the storage unit includes a false wall within the interior space, wherein the false wall is configured to slide into the peripheral position after the support moves to the unfolded position and the front doors are maneuvered into the interior space.

15 . The lift system of claim 1 , further comprising a bed light coupled to a portion of the storage unit outside of the interior space.

16 . The lift system of claim 1 , further comprising an emergency call switch coupled to the storage unit for summoning help.

17 . The lift system of claim 1 , wherein the lift gate further comprises a pivot plate and wherein the first end of at least one of the pair of opposing arms is pivotally affixed to the pivot plate.
