Abstract

A process for oligomerizing olefins to distillate fuels which oligomerizes a recycle olefin stream with a charge olefin stream in a first-stage oligomerization reactor. The first-stage oligomerate is oligomerized in a second-stage oligomerzation reactor to provide a second-stage oligomerate stream. The second-stage oligomer stream is hydrogenated to produce fuels. A stripping column is used to prepare the hydrogenated fuel streams for fractionation.

Claims (34)

1 . A process for oligomerizing olefin streams comprising:

oligomerizing liquid and vapor phase charge olefin streams over a first-stage oligomerization catalyst to produce a first-stage oligomerized stream;

oligomerizing said first-stage oligomerized stream over a second-stage oligomerization catalyst to provide a second-stage oligomerized stream;

hydrogenating a heavy olefin stream taken from said second stage oligomerized stream to provide a hydrogenated stream; and

stripping light gases from said hydrogenated stream to provide a stripped stream.

2 . The process of claim 1 wherein stripping light gases from said hydrogenated stream further comprises separating said hydrogenated stream to provide a hydrogenated liquid stream and stripping light gases from said hydrogenated liquid stream.

3 . The process of claim 2 wherein stripping light gases from said hydrogenated liquid stream further comprises separating said hydrogenated stream into a hot vapor stream and a hot hydrogenated liquid stream, separating said hot vapor stream into a cold vapor stream and a cold hydrogenated liquid stream and stripping light gases from said cold hydrogenated liquid stream and said hot hydrogenated liquid stream.

4 . The process of claim 3 further comprising fractionating said stripped stream to provide a naphtha stream, a jet fuel stream and a diesel stream.

5 . The process of claim 4 further comprising recycling a portion of said diesel stream to said oligomerizing step.

6 . The process of claim 1 further comprising splitting said second stage oligomerized stream into a light olefin stream and a heavy olefin stream and reboiling said heavy olefin stream by heat exchange with a portion of said diesel stream.

7 . The process of claim 6 wherein splitting said second stage oligomerized stream into a light olefin stream and a heavy olefin stream further comprises depropanizing said second-stage oligomerized stream to provide a light alkane stream and depropanized stream and splitting said depropanized stream.

8 . The process of claim 7 further comprising reboiling said depropanized stream by heat exchange with a portion of said diesel stream.

9 . The process of claim 6 further comprising oligomerizing charge olefin streams with a recycle olefin stream over a first-stage oligomerization catalyst wherein said recycle olefin stream is taken from said light olefin stream.

10 . The process of claim 7 further comprising oligomerizing charge olefin streams with a recycle olefin stream over a first-stage oligomerization catalyst wherein said recycle olefin stream is taken from light olefin stream.

11 . A process for oligomerizing olefin streams comprising:

oligomerizing liquid and vapor phase charge olefin streams over a first-stage oligomerization catalyst to produce a first-stage oligomerized stream;

oligomerizing said first-stage oligomerized stream over a second-stage oligomerization catalyst to provide a second-stage oligomerized stream;

hydrogenating a heavy olefin stream taken from said second stage oligomerized stream to provide a hydrogenated stream;

stripping light gases from said hydrogenated stream to provide a stripped stream; and

fractionating said stripped stream to provide a naphtha stream, a jet fuel stream and a diesel stream.

12 . The process of claim 11 wherein stripping light gases from said hydrogenated stream further comprises separating said hydrogenated stream to provide a hydrogenated liquid stream and stripping light gases from said hydrogenated liquid stream.

13 . The process of claim 12 wherein stripping light gases from said hydrogenated liquid stream further comprises separating said hydrogenated stream into a hot vapor stream and a hot hydrogenated liquid stream, separating said hot vapor stream into a cold vapor stream and a cold hydrogenated liquid stream and stripping light gases from said cold hydrogenated liquid stream and said hot hydrogenated liquid stream.

14 . The process of claim 11 further comprising recycling a portion of said diesel stream to said oligomerizing step.

15 . The process of claim 11 further comprising splitting said second stage oligomerized stream into a light olefin stream and a heavy olefin stream and reboiling said heavy olefin stream by heat exchange with a portion of said diesel stream.

16 . A process for oligomerizing olefin streams comprising:

oligomerizing liquid and vapor phase charge olefin streams over a first-stage oligomerization catalyst to produce a first-stage oligomerized stream;

oligomerizing said first-stage oligomerized stream over a second-stage oligomerization catalyst to provide a second-stage oligomerized stream; and

hydrogenating a heavy olefin stream taken from said second stage oligomerized stream to provide a hydrogenated stream;

separating said hydrogenated stream to provide a hydrogenated liquid stream; and

stripping light gases from said hydrogenated liquid stream to provide a stripped stream.

17 . The process of claim 16 wherein stripping light gases from said hydrogenated liquid stream further comprises separating said hydrogenated stream into a hot vapor stream and a hot hydrogenated liquid stream, separating said hot vapor stream into a cold vapor stream and a cold hydrogenated liquid stream and stripping light gases from said cold hydrogenated liquid stream and said hot hydrogenated liquid stream.
