Abstract

A system for and method of generating alternative pricing is provided. A user accesses an online portal to set a pricing scheme for products. The user inputs a credit card price for one or more products along with a desired cash discount rate or amount. The invention can then generate a second price for each product and check said prices for compliance against one or more rules and regulations set by credit card issuers, state governments, and/or federal governments. Some embodiments of the invention include notifying the user of non-compliance and automatically providing iterative pricing checks to find the best compliant price. The invention can also generate a reference or point-of-sale code which can be utilized by a consumer to view a final resulting price list.

Claims (51)

1 . A dual pricing system comprising:

a system processor;

a database connected to said system processor via a communications network and configured for storing price information for a plurality of products and one or more pricing compliance rules;

a software application configured to run on said system processor, the software application comprising a computational algorithm configured for calculating a second price for each product of said plurality of products prior to commencement of a consumer transaction, said algorithm comprising a first variable consisting of a rate factor and a second variable consisting of a first price, and wherein said software application is configured such that a user selects between said first price and said second price for a product for completion of said consumer transaction;

wherein said algorithm is further configured to verify the calculation of said second price against said one or more rules to check for compliance;

wherein said one or more rules comprises one or more rules proscribing a merchant from adding credit card fees at a point of purchase;

a display connected to said system processor and configured for providing access to said user via a user interface;

wherein said user interface is configured for displaying said first price and said second price and for allowing said user to select between said first price and said second price for payment to complete said consumer transaction.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said display comprises a first display and said user interface comprises a first user interface; and

the system further comprises a second display connected to said system processor and configured for providing access to said system via a second user interface.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein:

said first user interface comprises a merchant or consumer user interface; and

said second user interface comprises a system administrator user interface.

4 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a printer;

a product label comprising a price listing, an electronic link, a web address, a barcode, an RFID, or a quick response (QR) code configured to display or prompt display of the first price and the second price; and

a point of sale (POS) device.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein:

said display is connected to said POS device.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said software application is further configured to display a notification warning on said user interface if said second price is non-compliant with said one or more rules.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said software application is further configured to prompt said user to adjust said first variable to bring said second price in compliance with said one or more rules.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said software application is configured to repeatedly verify the calculation of said second price against said one or more rules to check for compliance until said second price is compliant with said one or more rules.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said software application is further configured to automatically adjust said first variable to make said second price compliant with said one or more rules if said second price is not initially compliant with said one or more rules.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said first price comprises a standard price used for credit card purchases.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

said second price comprises a discounted price used for cash purchases.

12 . A method of generating two prices for one or more products, the method comprising:

providing a system processor and a database connected to said system processor via a communications network, the database configured for storing price information for said one or more products and one or more pricing compliance rules;

providing a software application configured to run on said system processor, the software application comprising a computational algorithm configured for calculating a second price for the one or more products, said algorithm comprising a first variable consisting of a rate factor and a second variable consisting of a first price, and the software application further configured to verify the calculation of said second price against said one or more rules to check for compliance, wherein said one or more rules comprises one or more rules proscribing a merchant from adding credit card fees at a point of purchase;

setting said first price variable and generating said second price for said one or more products prior to commencement of a consumer transaction;

verifying said second price for compliance with said one or more rules;

displaying a user interface showing said first price and said second price for said one or more products; and

a user selecting between said first price and said second price for payment to complete said consumer transaction.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

printing a product label comprising a price listing, an electronic link, a web address, a barcode, an RFID, or a quick response (QR) code configured to display or prompt display of the first price and the second price.

14 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

a point of sale (POS) device processing said consumer transaction following said user selection between said first price and said second price.

15 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

displaying a notification warning on said user interface when said second price is non-compliant with said one or more rules.

16 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

prompting said user to adjust said first variable to bring said second price in compliance with said one or more rules.

17 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

repeatedly verifying said second price for compliance with said one or more rules until said second price is compliant with said one or more rules.

18 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

automatically adjusting said first variable to make said second price compliant with said one or more rules if said second price is not initially compliant with said one or more rules.
