Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for presentation of advertising content during presentation of media content and based on data collected from vehicle sensors and a mobile device. Media content, such as stored songs, podcasts, or videos, may be presented to a user. Sensor data corresponding to operation of a vehicle may be collected, and a risk score based on operation of the vehicle may be determined. Based on the risk score, an advertising tier may be determined. The scope of media content available to a user and the frequency of presentation of advertising content during presentation of such media content may be based on the risk score. For example, safe driving behaviors may result in rewards which permit access to more media content, and/or safe driving behaviors may result in fewer advertisements being presented to a user on an in-vehicle display.

Claims (55)

1 . A media presentation device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

receive, from a user associated with a vehicle, an indication of media content;

cause presentation of a first portion of the media content;

receive, from a sensor data collection module, sensor data from sensors associated with the vehicle;

determine, based on the sensor data, a risk score, wherein the risk score is based at least on a speed of the vehicle and a rate of acceleration of the vehicle;

determine, based on the risk score, one or more points;

add the one or more points to a point balance associated with the user, wherein the point balance is used to influence advertising content to be presented to the user;

determine, based on the point balance, an advertisement tier associated with an advertisement frequency, wherein the advertisement tier is used to determine the frequency to present the advertising content, wherein one or more safe driving behaviors cause a decrease in the advertisement frequency and wherein one or more unsafe driving behaviors cause an increase in the advertisement frequency;

determine, based on the advertisement tier, a first advertisement, wherein the one or more safe driving behaviors cause an advertisement with a first duration to be determined as the first advertisement and wherein the one or more unsafe driving behaviors cause an advertisement with a second duration to be determined as the first advertisement, wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration;

cause presentation of, based on the advertisement frequency and a time associated with the first portion of the media content, the first advertisement; and cause presentation of, after presentation of the first advertisement, a second portion of the media content.

2 . The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein the point balance is used to adjust the advertisement frequency.

3 . The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein a higher point balance results in a higher advertising tier.

4 . The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein additional points are added to the point balance based on safe driving behaviors of the user.

5 . The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein at least one point is subtracted from the point balance based on unsafe driving behaviors of the user.

6 . The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein at least one point is added or subtracted based on driving behaviors of the user.

7 . The media presentation device of claim 1 , wherein, when executed by the one or more processors, the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

receive, from the user associated with the vehicle, a request to purchase a presentation of one or more advertisements having a shorter duration than that of the first advertisement, wherein the purchase is associated with at least one point;

subtract the at least one point from the point balance associated with the user; and

either:

cause the presentation of the first advertisement to be shortened; or

determine a second advertisement for subsequent presentation, wherein the second advertisement has a duration that is shorter than that of the first advertisement.

8 . A method comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors of a media presentation device, and from a user associated with a vehicle, an indication of media content, wherein the media presentation device comprises the one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform one or more operations of the media presentation device;

causing, by the one or more processors, presentation of a first portion of the media content; receiving, by the one or more processors, and from a sensor data collection module, sensor data from sensors associated with the vehicle;

determining, by the one or more processors, and based on the sensor data, a risk score, wherein the risk score is based at least on a speed of the vehicle and a rate of acceleration of the vehicle;

determining, by the one or more processors, and based on the risk score, one or more points;

adding, by the one or more processors, the one or more points to a point balance associated with the user, wherein the point balance is used to influence advertising content to be presented to the user;

determining, by the one or more processors, and based on the point balance, an advertisement tier associated with an advertisement frequency, wherein the advertisement tier is used to determine the frequency to present the advertising content, wherein one or more safe driving behaviors cause a decrease in the advertisement frequency and wherein one or more unsafe driving behaviors cause an increase in the advertisement frequency;

determining, by the one or more processors, and based on the advertisement tier, a first advertisement, wherein the one or more safe driving behaviors cause an advertisement with a first duration to be determined as the first advertisement and wherein the one or more unsafe driving behaviors cause an advertisement with a second duration to be determined as the first advertisement, wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration;

causing, by the one or more processors, presentation of, based on the advertisement frequency and a time associated with the first portion of the media content, the first advertisement; and

causing, by the one or more processors, presentation of, after presentation of the first advertisement, a second portion of the media content.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the point balance is used to adjust the advertisement frequency.

10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein a higher point balance results in a higher advertising tier.

11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein additional points are added to the point balance based on safe driving behaviors of the user.

12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein at least one point is subtracted from the point balance based on unsafe driving behaviors of the user.

13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein at least one point is added or subtracted based on driving behaviors of the user.

14 . A system comprising:

a media presentation device; and a display device in a vehicle, wherein the media presentation device is configured to:

receive, from a user associated with a vehicle, an indication of media content;

cause presentation of a first portion of the media content;

receive, from a sensor data collection module, sensor data from sensors associated with the vehicle;

determine, based on the sensor data, a risk score, wherein the risk score is based at least on a speed of the vehicle and a rate of acceleration of the vehicle;

determine, based on the risk score, one or more points;

add the one or more points to a point balance associated with the user, wherein the point balance is used to influence advertising content to be presented to the user;

determine, based on the point balance, an advertisement tier associated with an advertisement frequency, wherein the advertisement tier is used to determine the frequency to present the advertising content, wherein one or more safe driving behaviors cause a decrease in the advertisement frequency and wherein one or more unsafe driving behaviors cause an increase in the advertisement frequency;

determine, based on the advertisement tier, a first advertisement, wherein the one or more safe driving behaviors cause an advertisement with a first duration to be determined as the first advertisement and wherein the one or more unsafe driving behaviors cause an advertisement with a second duration to be determined as the first advertisement, wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration;

cause presentation of, based on the advertisement frequency and a time associated with the first portion of the media content, the first advertisement; and

cause presentation of, after presentation of the first advertisement, a second portion of the media content.
