Abstract

A satellite system includes a receiver, a transmitter, and a processor. The processor is configured to receive a LDR-PNT signal using the receiver of a terminal of the satellite system; provide a network entry request using the transmitter of the terminal of the satellite system; and receive acknowledgement of network entry for communication.

Claims (31)

1 . A system, comprising:

a receiver;

a transmitter;

a processor configured to:

receive a LDR-PNT signal using the receiver;

determine, based on the LDR-PNT signal, whether to provide a first network entry request or a second network entry request, wherein the first network entry request is for LDR communication and the second network entry request is for HDR communication;

provide the first network entry request or the second network entry request using the transmitter; and

receive acknowledgement of network entry for communication.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the communication comprises communication using a LDR link.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the communication comprises communication using an HDR link.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the LDR-PNT signal includes control data.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the control data comprises time synchronization.

6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the control data comprises a rendezvous time for an HDR link.

7 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the control data comprises an HDR link state.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the LDR-PNT signal includes service messages.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the service messages include a satellite almanac.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the service messages include broadcast messages.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the service messages include encrypted group messages.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the service messages include encryption keys.

13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first network entry request or the second network entry request includes a node ID of a terminal.

14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first network entry request or the second network entry request includes authentication information.

15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first network entry request or the second network entry request includes a terminal location.

16 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the acknowledgement of network entry comprises a satellite ID.

17 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the acknowledgement of network entry comprises a time to expect a LDR handshake or an HDR handshake.

18 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the LDR communication or the HDR communication is scheduled at a scheduled time with a satellite.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein a high gain aperture beam is directed at the satellite at the scheduled time.

20 . A method, comprising:

receiving a LDR-PNT signal using the receiver;

determining, based on the LDR-PNT signal, whether to provide a first network entry request or a second network entry request, wherein the first network entry request is for LDR communication and the second network entry request is for HDR communication;

providing the first network entry request or the second network entry request using the transmitter; and

receiving acknowledgement of network entry for communication.
