Systems and methods for controlling network devices in an augmented reality environment
Systems and methods are described herein for controlling network devices in an augmented reality environment. A user may point a second network device at a first network device to determine a network activity the first network device. The second network device may display a user control interface to enable the user to control the network activity of the first network device (e.g., a pinch gesture control). In response to receiving the user input, the second network device causes the modification of the network activity based on the user input.
1 . A system for controlling devices in an augmented reality environment, the system comprising:
a first network device; and
a second network device, wherein the second network device comprises:
a camera;
a display; and
control circuitry, wherein the control circuitry is configured to:
detect that the first network device is within a visual field of the camera of the second network device; and
in response to detecting that the first network device is within the visual field of the camera:
retrieve a network address of the first network device;
based at least in part on the network address of the first network device, determine a network activity of the first network device;
generate for display on the display a status of a parameter of the network activity, and a graphical interface for controlling the parameter of the network activity, wherein the graphical interface comprises an animation corresponding to a bandwidth of the network activity, and wherein a speed of the animation is proportional to the bandwidth;
receive a user input via the graphical interface, wherein the user input indicates a requested adjustment of the parameter of the network activity; and
in response to receiving the user input via the graphical interface:
cause to be adjusted the parameter of the network activity based on the user input; and
cause to be modified an available bandwidth for an additional network device based on the adjusted parameter of the network activity, wherein the modifying is inversely related to the adjusting.
2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a third network device, wherein the third network device communicatively couples the first network device to a wide area network, and wherein:
the control circuitry is further configured, when causing to be adjusted the parameter of the network activity based on the user input, to transmit a request to the third network device to adjust the parameter of the network activity; and
the third network device is configured to adjust the parameter of the network activity in response to receiving the request.

The system of claim 2 , wherein the third network device comprises storage circuitry configured to store, in a database, the parameter of the network activity, wherein the parameter corresponds to at least one of a source address, a destination address, a device name, the bandwidth, a priority, a duration, an access time, a network cap, or a service characterization of the network activity, and the control circuitry is further configured, to retrieve, from the database, the parameter.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured:
when generating for display the status of the parameter of the network activity, to:
identify an application corresponding to the network activity; and
generate for display an indication of the application; and
when causing to be adjusted the parameter of the network activity based on the user input, to transmit a request to the application running on the first network device to adjust the parameter of the network activity.
5 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a third network device, wherein the control circuitry is further configured:
to detect that the third network device is within a visual field of the camera of the second network device;
to determine that the network activity is between the first network device and the third network device;
in response to determining that the third network activity is between the first network device and the third network device, to generate for display a user interface element (UI) representing a connection between the first network device and the third network device;
when receiving the user input via the graphical interface, to receive a UI interaction corresponding to the UI element representing the connection between the first network device and the third network device; and
to modify the parameter of the network activity based on the UI interaction.

The system of claim 5 , wherein the UI interaction is a pinch gesture, and wherein a size of the UI element representing the connection between the first network device and the third network device is proportional to the bandwidth of the network activity, and wherein the control circuitry is configured to:
increase the bandwidth of the network activity proportional to an increase in distance between touch points of the pinch gesture; and
decrease the bandwidth of the network activity proportional to a decrease in distance between touch points of the pinch gesture.
7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
determine, subsequent to modifying the parameter of the network activity based on the UI interaction, an updated status of the network activity; and
generate for display the updated status of the network activity.
8 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
receive a UI interaction corresponding to the connection between the first network device and the third network device; and
in response to receiving the UI interaction, terminate the network activity between the first network device and the third network device.
9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
receive a user selection of the first network device; and
in response to receiving the user selection of the first network device, generate for display two or more statuses corresponding to two or more parameters of the network activity.
10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when detecting that the first network device is within a visual field of the camera of the second network device, to:
determine a position of the first network device based on an ultra-wide band signal of the first network device; and
determine, based at least in part on the position of the first network device, one or more positions for displaying at least one of (i) the status of the parameter of the network activity or (ii) the graphical interface for controlling the parameter of the network activity; and
wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when generating for display the status of the parameter of the network activity and the graphical interface for controlling the parameter, to generate for display, at the one or more positions, the status of the parameter of the network and the graphical interface for controlling the parameter of the network activity.
11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the network address is an internet protocol (IP) address and wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when retrieving the network address of the first network device, to:
identify based on an ultra-wide band signal of the first network device a hardware address of the first network device; and
based on the hardware address of the first network device, identify the internet protocol address of the first network device.
12 . A method for controlling devices in an augmented reality environment, the method comprising:
detecting that a first network device is within a visual field of a camera of a second network device; and
in response to detecting that the first network device is within the visual field of the camera:
retrieving a network address of the first network device;
based at least in part on the network address of the first network device, determining a network activity of the first network device;
generating for display on a display of the second network device a status of a parameter of the network activity, and a graphical interface for controlling the parameter of the network activity, wherein the graphical interface comprises an animation corresponding to a bandwidth of the network activity, and wherein a speed of the animation is proportional to the bandwidth;
receiving a user input via the graphical interface, wherein the user input indicates a requested adjustment of the parameter of the network activity; and
in response to receiving the user input via the graphical interface:
causing to be adjusted the parameter of the network activity based on the user input; and
modifying an available bandwidth for an additional network device based on the adjusted parameter of the network activity, wherein the modifying is inversely related to the adjusting.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein causing to be adjusted the parameter of the network activity based on the user input comprises transmitting a request to a third network device to adjust the parameter of the network activity, and wherein the third network device comprises a wide area network connection, further comprising:
adjusting, by the third network device, the parameter of the network activity in response to receiving the request.
14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising:
storing, in a database on storage circuitry of the third network device, the parameter of the network activity, wherein the parameter corresponds to at least one of a source address, a destination address, a device name, the bandwidth, a priority, a duration, an access time, a network cap, or a service characterization of the network activity; and
retrieving, from the database, the parameter.
15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein:
generating for display the status of the parameter of the network activity further comprises:
identifying an application corresponding to the network activity; and
generating for display an indication of the application; and
causing to be adjusted the parameter of the network activity based on the user input, further comprises transmitting a request to the application running on the first network device to adjust the parameter of the network activity.
16 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
detecting that a third network device is within a visual field of the camera of the second network device;
determining that the network activity is between the first network device and the third network device;
in response to determining that the third network activity is between the first network device and the third network device, generating for display a user interface element (UI) representing a connection between the first network device and the third network device;
receiving a UI interaction corresponding to the UI element representing the connection between the first network device and the third network device; and
modifying the parameter of the network activity based on the UI interaction.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the UI interaction is a pinch gesture, and wherein a size of the UI element representing the connection between the first network device and the third network device is proportional to the bandwidth of the network activity, further comprising:
increasing the bandwidth of the network activity proportional to an increase in distance between touch points of the pinch gesture; and
decreasing the bandwidth of the network activity proportional to a decrease in distance between touch points of the pinch gesture.
18 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
determining, subsequent to modifying the parameter of the network activity based on the UI interaction, an updated status of the network activity; and
generate for display the updated status of the network activity.
19 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
receiving a UI interaction corresponding to the connection between the first network device and the third network device; and
in response to receiving the UI interaction, terminating the network activity between the first network device and the third network device.
20 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
receiving a user selection of the first network device; and
in response to receiving the user selection of the first network device, generating for display two or more statuses corresponding to two or more parameters of the network activity.
21 . The method of claim 12 , wherein detecting that the first network device is within a visual field of the camera of the second network device comprises:
determining a position of the first network device based on an ultra-wide band signal of the first network device;
determining, based at least in part on the position of the first network device, one or more positions for displaying at least one of (i) the status of the parameter of the network activity or (ii) the graphical interface for controlling the parameter of the network activity; and
wherein generating for display the status of the parameter of the network activity and the graphical interface for controlling the parameter further comprises generating for display, at the one or more positions, the status of the parameter of the network and the graphical interface for controlling the parameter of the network.
22 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the network address is an Internet Protocol (IP) address and wherein retrieving the network address of the first network device further comprises:
identifying based on an ultra-wide band signal of the first network device a hardware address of the first network device; and
based on the hardware address of the first network device, identifying the IP address of the first network device.
