Abstract

Best links for wireless clients may be provided. A computing device may receive, from a client device, a request to join a network. Then, in response to receiving the request to join the network, initial characteristics of the client device may be evaluated. Next, an initial plurality of links list may be provided to the client device in response to evaluating the initial characteristics of the client device. Subsequent characteristics of the client device may then be evaluated. An updated plurality of links list may be provided to the client device in response to evaluating the subsequent characteristics of the client device.

Claims (49)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a computing device from a client device, a request to join a network;

evaluating, in response to receiving the request to join the network, initial characteristics of the client device;

providing, to the client device in response to evaluating the initial characteristics of the client device, an initial plurality of links list, wherein providing the initial plurality of links comprises:

performing Multi-link Device (MLD) sounding exchanges between a plurality of sensors and a plurality of radios in range of each sensor,

augmenting, at intervals, the sounding with a nonce payload exchange,

determining, based on the MLD sounding exchanges, a latency at various channel utilization levels, and

determining the initial plurality of links list based on the latency at the various channel utilization levels;

evaluating subsequent characteristics of the client device; and

providing, to the client device in response to evaluating the subsequent characteristics of the client device, an updated plurality of links list.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the initial characteristics of the client device comprise at least one of device physical characteristics of the client device, detected transmission structure of the client device, and a location of the client device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein links listed in the initial plurality of links list and in the updated plurality of links list are classified by class of service.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein data is included for links listed in the initial plurality of links list and in the updated plurality of links list, the data indicates at least one of a transmit (Tx) antenna, a channel, a Basic Service Set Identifier (BSSID), and key metrics.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising selecting, by the client device, a link listed in the initial plurality of links list or in the updated plurality of links list based on the data.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing the initial plurality of links list comprises:

selecting a predetermined number of links from the set of N×M×K where N is a number of transmit spatial streams, M is a number of radios, and is 1 plus a number of non-co-located neighbor access points.

7 . A system comprising:

a memory storage; and

a processing unit, the processing unit coupled to the memory storage, wherein the processing unit is operative to:

receive, from a client device, a request to join a network,

evaluate, in response to receiving the request to join the network, initial characteristics of the client device,

provide, to the client device in response to evaluating the initial characteristics of the client device, an initial plurality of links list, wherein the processing unit being operative to provide the initial plurality of links comprises the processing unit being operative to:

perform Multi-link Device (MLD) sounding exchanges between a plurality of sensors and a plurality of radios in range of each sensor,

augment, at intervals, the sounding with a nonce payload exchange,

determine, based on the MLD sounding exchanges, a latency at various channel utilization levels, and

determine the initial plurality of links list based on the latency at the various channel utilization levels;

evaluate subsequent characteristics of the client device, and

provide, to the client device in response to evaluating the subsequent characteristics of the client device, an updated plurality of links list.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the initial characteristics of the client device comprise at least one of device physical characteristics of the client device, detected transmission structure of the client device, and a location of the client device.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein links listed in the initial plurality of links list and in the updated plurality of links list are classified by class of service.

10 . The system of claim 7 , wherein data is included for links listed in the initial plurality of links list and in the updated plurality of links list, the data indicates at least one of a transmit (Tx) antenna, a channel, a Basic Service Set Identifier (BSSID), and key metrics.

11 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the processing unit being operative to provide the initial plurality of links list comprises the processing unit being operative to:

select a predetermined number of links from the set of N×M×K where N is a number of transmit spatial streams, M is a number of radios, and is 1 plus a number of non-co-located neighbor access points.

12 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium that stores a set of instructions which when executed perform a method executed by the set of instructions comprising:

receiving, by a computing device from a client device, a request to join a network;

evaluating, in response to receiving the request to join the network, initial characteristics of the client device;

providing, to the client device in response to evaluating the initial characteristics of the client device, an initial plurality of links list, wherein providing the initial plurality of links comprises:

performing Multi-link Device (MLD) sounding exchanges between a plurality of sensors and a plurality of radios in range of each sensor,

augmenting, at intervals, the sounding with a nonce payload exchange,

determining, based on the MLD sounding exchanges, a latency at various channel utilization levels, and

determining the initial plurality of links list based on the latency at the various channel utilization levels;

evaluating subsequent characteristics of the client device; and

providing, to the client device in response to evaluating the subsequent characteristics of the client device, an updated plurality of links list.

13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the initial characteristics of the client device comprise at least one of device physical characteristics of the client device, detected transmission structure of the client device, and a location of the client device.

14 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein links listed in the initial plurality of links list and in the updated plurality of links list are classified by class of service.

15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein data is included for links listed in the initial plurality of links list and in the updated plurality of links list, the data indicates at least one of a transmit (Tx) antenna, a channel, a Basic Service Set Identifier (BSSID), and key metrics.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising selecting, by the client device, a link listed in the initial plurality of links list or in the updated plurality of links list based on the data.

17 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein providing the initial plurality of links list comprises:

selecting a predetermined number of links from the set of N×M×K where N is a number of transmit spatial streams, M is a number of radios, and is 1 plus a number of non-co-located neighbor access points.
