Abstract

A method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal includes: receiving, at a base station, the uplink positioning reference signal from a user equipment; determining, at the base station, a plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, each of the plurality of measurement values being of a same type of measurement, and corresponding to the uplink positioning reference signal; and sending, from the base station to a server, a report including the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and at least one indication that the plurality of measurement values corresponds to a same uplink positioning reference signal.

Claims (45)

1 . A base station comprising:

a transceiver;

a memory; and

one or more processors communicatively coupled to the transceiver and the memory and configured to:

receive an uplink positioning reference signal from a user equipment via the transceiver;

determine a plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, each of the plurality of measurement values being of a same type of measurement, and corresponding to the uplink positioning reference signal; and

send, via the transceiver to a server, a report including the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and at least one indication that the plurality of measurement values corresponds to a same uplink positioning reference signal.

The base station of claim 1 , wherein the at least one indication comprises a same uplink positioning reference signal identifier for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a same timestamp value for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a combination thereof.

3 . The base station of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver comprises a plurality of antenna elements, and wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of antenna elements.

4 . The base station of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of paths of the same uplink positioning reference signal.

The base station of claim 4 , wherein the report comprises a plurality of index sets each corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and indicative of the respective one of the plurality of antenna elements and the respective one of the plurality of paths.

6 . The base station of claim 5 , wherein each of the plurality of index sets is further indicative of a measurement type of the respective one of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal.

7 . The base station of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of paths of the same uplink positioning reference signal.

The base station of claim 7 , wherein the transceiver comprises a plurality of antenna elements, and wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal comprises a combination of other measurement values corresponding to the plurality of antenna elements.

9 . The base station of claim 8 , wherein the other measurement values comprise power values and the combination of other measurement values corresponding to the plurality of antenna elements is either a sum of the power values or an average of the power values.

10 . The base station of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal comprises a power value, or an angle of arrival value, or a time of arrival value, or a time difference value relative to a reference time, or any combination thereof.

The base station of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of measurement values is a plurality of first measurement values, and wherein the one or more processors are configured to order the plurality of first measurement values in the report based on values of second measurement values that correspond to the plurality of first measurement values and that are omitted from the report.

12 . A method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal, the method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal comprising:

receiving, at a base station, the uplink positioning reference signal from a user equipment;

determining, at the base station, a plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, each of the plurality of measurement values being of a same type of measurement, and corresponding to the uplink positioning reference signal; and

sending, from the base station to a server, a report including the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and at least one indication that the plurality of measurement values corresponds to a same uplink positioning reference signal.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 12 , wherein the at least one indication comprises a same uplink positioning reference signal identifier for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a same timestamp value for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a combination thereof.

14 . The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of antenna elements of the base station.

15 . The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 14 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of paths of the same uplink positioning reference signal.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 15 , wherein the report comprises a plurality of index sets each corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and indicative of the respective one of the plurality of antenna elements and the respective one of the plurality of paths.

17 . The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 16 , wherein each of the plurality of index sets is further indicative of a measurement type of the respective one of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal.

18 . The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of paths of the same uplink positioning reference signal.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 18 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal comprises a combination of other measurement values corresponding to a plurality of antenna elements of the base station.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 19 , wherein the other measurement values comprise power values and the combination of other measurement values corresponding to the plurality of antenna elements is either a sum of the power values or an average of the power values.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal comprises a power value, or an angle of arrival value, or a time of arrival value, or a time difference value relative to a reference time, or any combination thereof.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of measurement values is a plurality of first measurement values, and wherein the report is sent with the plurality of first measurement values in the report ordered based on values of second measurement values that correspond to the plurality of first measurement values and that are omitted from the report.

The method of reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal of claim 12 , further comprising ordering the plurality of measurement values in the report according to a sequence, received by the base station from the server, of respective combinations of antenna element and path corresponding to each of the plurality of measurement values.

24 . A base station comprising:

means for receiving an uplink positioning reference signal from a user equipment;

means for determining a plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, each of the plurality of measurement values being of a same type of measurement, and corresponding to the uplink positioning reference signal; and

means for sending, to a server, a report including the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and at least one indication that the plurality of measurement values corresponds to a same uplink positioning reference signal.

The base station of claim 24 , wherein the at least one indication comprises a same uplink positioning reference signal identifier for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a same timestamp value for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a combination thereof.

26 . The base station of claim 24 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of antenna elements of the base station.

27 . The base station of claim 24 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of paths of the same uplink positioning reference signal.

28 . The base station of claim 24 , wherein each of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal corresponds to a respective one of a plurality of antenna elements of the base station and to a respective one of a plurality of paths of the same uplink positioning reference signal, and wherein the report comprises a plurality of index sets each corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and indicative of the respective one of the plurality of antenna elements and the respective one of the plurality of paths.

29 . A non-transitory, processor-readable storage medium comprising processor-readable instructions configured to cause one or more processors of a base station, in order to facilitate reporting measurements of an uplink positioning reference signal, to:

receive the uplink positioning reference signal from a user equipment;

determine a plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, each of the plurality of measurement values being of a same type of measurement, and corresponding to the uplink positioning reference signal; and

send, to a server, a report the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal and at least one indication that the plurality of measurement values corresponds to a same uplink positioning reference signal.

The storage medium of claim 29 , wherein the at least one indication comprises a same uplink positioning reference signal identifier for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a same timestamp value for the plurality of measurement values of the uplink positioning reference signal, or a combination thereof.
