Abstract

A method may include determining, by a wireless device not in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, a change of height of the wireless device. The method may also include receiving, by the wireless device from the base station, at least one of a threshold for determining the change of height, a hysteresis value for determining the change of height, an event type associated with the change of height, and a parameter indicating that the threshold, the hysteresis value, and/or the event type is for height measurements by the wireless device while not in the RRC connected state. The method may further include transmitting, by the wireless device to a base station, a message indicating the change of height of the wireless device.

Claims (54)

1 . A method comprising:

determining, by a wireless device not in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, a change of height of the wireless device; and

transmitting, by the wireless device to a base station, a message indicating the change of height of the wireless device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the wireless device from the base station, at least one of:

a threshold for determining the change of height;

a hysteresis value for determining the change of height;

an event type associated with the change of height; and

a parameter indicating that the threshold, the hysteresis value, and/or the event type is for height measurements by the wireless device while not in the RRC connected state.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the threshold, the hysteresis value, the event type, and/or the parameter are received by the wireless device while the wireless device is in the RRC connected state.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the event type is one of one or more event types indicating:

that the height of the wireless device becomes higher than the threshold;

that the height of the wireless device becomes higher than the threshold plus at least a portion of the hysteresis value;

that the height of the wireless device becomes lower than the threshold; and/or

that the height of the wireless device becomes lower than the threshold minus at least a portion of the hysteresis value.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the threshold, the hysteresis value, the event type, and/or the parameter are received in at least one of:

a measurement report configuration message; and

an RRC reconfiguration message.

6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the threshold, the hysteresis value, the event type, and/or the parameter are received in an RRC release message.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising transitioning, by the wireless device based on the RRC release message, out of the RRC connected state.

8 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising determining, by the wireless device not in the RRC connected state, the height of the wireless device.

9 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising determining, by the wireless device and based on the height of the wireless device, that an event of the event type occurs.

10 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising determining, by the wireless device, one or more of:

that the height of the wireless device becomes higher than the threshold;

that the height of the wireless device becomes higher than the threshold plus at least a portion of the hysteresis value;

that the height of the wireless device becomes lower than the threshold; and

that the height of the wireless device becomes lower than the threshold minus at least a portion of the hysteresis value.

11 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the transmitting the message indicating the change of height of the wireless device is based on the height of the wireless device and/or the height of the wireless device becoming higher and/or lower than:

the threshold; and/or

the threshold plus or minus at least a portion of the hysteresis value.

12 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the message indicating the change of height of the wireless device:

indicates the event type; and/or

is transmitted based on an occurrence of the event type.

13 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the message indicating the change of height of the wireless device comprises at least one of:

a cause parameter indicating measurement reporting; and

a user equipment identity of the wireless device.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the message indicating the change of height of the wireless device indicates a measurement report, or is an RRC setup request message, or both.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device not in the RRC connected state is in an RRC idle state and/or an RRC inactive state.

16 . A wireless device, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to perform a process, the process comprising:

determining, by a wireless device not in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, a change of height of the wireless device; and

transmitting, by the wireless device to a base station, a message indicating the change of height of the wireless device.

17 . A method comprising:

transmitting, by a base station to a wireless device, via a cell, system information indicating a threshold for a height of the wireless device; and

receiving, by the base station from the wireless device, a message indicating a change of a height of the wireless device, wherein the change is determined by the wireless device not in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state.

18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising transmitting, by the base station to the wireless device in an RRC release message, at least one of:

a threshold for determining the change of height;

a hysteresis value for determining the change of height;

an event type associated with the change of height; and

a parameter indicating that the threshold, the hysteresis value, and/or the event type is for height measurements by the wireless device while not in the RRC connected state.

19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising transmitting, by the base station, to the wireless device in the RRC connected state, an RRC release message, wherein the threshold, the hysteresis value, the event type, and/or the parameter are transmitted in the RRC release message.

20 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising:
