Abstract

Various embodiments of a device for deep surgical corridor microvascular anastomosis are described herein.

Claims (15)

1 . A device, comprising:

an elongated body including a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a channel defined axially through the elongated body, the elongated body defining a longitudinal axis extending along a length of the elongated body;

an actuator in association with the proximal portion of the elongated body;

an actuation member disposed at least partially within the channel, the actuation member being operable in response to the actuator to translate along a first axial direction relative to the elongated body;

a pair of coupling arms in association with the distal portion of the elongated body, wherein each coupling arm of the pair of coupling arms includes a free end and a pivotable end; and

a lower post coupling the pivotable ends of the pair of coupling arms such that each coupling arm is operable to pivot about a pivot axis of the lower post between an open configuration and a closed configuration, wherein the pivot axis is substantially perpendicular to the first axial direction;

wherein the actuation member includes a first wedge and a second wedge configured to guide the pair of coupling arms toward one another upon translation of the actuation member along the first axial direction such that the pair of coupling arms are parallel with one another in a closed configuration; and

wherein the pair of coupling arms removably engage a pair of coupler rings and orient a plurality of pins of the pair of coupler rings towards the proximal portion of the elongated body when in the open configuration.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein a free end of a first coupling arm of the pair of coupling arms is drawn towards a free end of a second coupling arm of the pair of coupling arms as the actuation member translates in the first axial direction.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the coupling arm includes a receptacle including an open portion configured to receive a portion of a coupler ring of the pair of coupler rings, wherein the portion of the coupler ring can be removed from the coupling arm through the open portion of the coupling arm.

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the actuation member defines a notch between the first wedge and the opposite second wedge, the notch being configured to receive the lower post in the closed configuration.

5 . The device of claim 1 , the actuation member being a carriage received within the channel.

6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the elongated body includes an inner rod portion and an outer sheath portion defining a slot therebetween, and wherein the carriage is received in the slot.

7 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the carriage defines a proximal portion including a rack, and wherein the actuator includes a pinion configured to engage the rack to translate the carriage in the first axial direction.

8 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the carriage defines a frontal opening, and wherein the first wedge and the opposite second wedge are disposed on opposing sides of the frontal opening.
