Reduction system for spondylolisthesis
A system and method for reducing spondylolisthesis. The system includes a bracket comprising a first opening and a second opening, a first and second rod, and a first and second knob. The system may be placed onto a patient's back, the rods may be inserted through the first opening and the second opening and further into a first vertebral part and a second vertebral part. Tightening of a first knob and a second knob on the first and second rod allow for repositioning of the vertebra. Once repositioned, an interspinous implant may be inserted into the interspinous process space, connecting the vertebrae.
1 . A spondylolisthesis reduction system for repositioning a displaced vertebra, comprising:
a concave bracket configured to be placed onto an exterior back surface of a patient, the concave bracket having an opening therethrough;
a rod configured to be received through the opening, the rod having a distal end for insertion into the displaced vertebra;
a knob threadedly engaged with the rod,
wherein when the knob is threaded down the rod towards the distal end, the knob abuts the concave bracket, thereby creating leverage against the exterior back surface to pull the rod posteriorly to reposition the displaced vertebra in a posterior direction; and
an interspinous implant configured to be inserted when the displaced vertebra is repositioned.
2 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 1 ,
wherein the rod is a first rod, the knob is a first knob, the opening is a first opening and the concave bracket further comprises a second opening, and
wherein the spondylolisthesis reduction system further comprises:
a second rod configured to be received through the second opening, the second rod having a second distal end for insertion into the displaced vertebra; and
a second knob threadedly engaged with the second rod,
wherein when the second knob is threaded down the rod towards the second distal end, the second knob abuts the concave bracket, thereby creating leverage to pull the second rod posteriorly to reposition the displaced vertebra.
3 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 1 , wherein the spondylolisthesis reduction system further comprises a handle that is removably attachable to a proximal end of the rod, wherein the handle is rotatable to insert the distal end into the displaced vertebra.
4 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 1 ,
wherein the distal end of the rod comprises a distal tip that is removable therefrom, and
wherein the distal tip comprises at least one of: threads, teeth, fangs, or hooks for coupling to the displaced vertebra.
5 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the knob or the concave bracket is formed from a radiolucent material.
6 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is configured to substantially restrict lateral movement and longitudinal movement of the rod.
7 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 1 , wherein the knob comprises at least one of a textured surface or a sleeve configured to enhance grip.
8 . A spondylolisthesis reduction system for repositioning a displaced vertebra via a posterior approach, comprising:

a rod configured to be inserted through the opening, the rod having a distal end for insertion into a vertebral part of the displaced vertebra; and
a knob comprising a hole for receiving the rod,
wherein when the knob is advanced down the rod towards the distal end, the knob abuts the bracket, thereby creating leverage against the external back surface to pull the rod posteriorly to move the displaced vertebra to a new position.
9 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 8 ,
wherein the rod is a first rod, the opening is a first opening, and the vertebral part is a first vertebral part, and
wherein the spondylolisthesis reduction system further comprises a second rod configured to be inserted through a second opening of the bracket and further into a second vertebral part of the displaced vertebra.
10 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 8 , wherein the spondylolisthesis reduction system further comprises an interspinous implant for stabilizing the displaced vertebra.
11 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 10 , wherein the rod is configured to hold the displaced vertebra in the new position while the interspinous implant is inserted and configured to be removed from the patient after the insertion.
12 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 8 ,
wherein the hole comprises internal threads configured to cooperate with external threads on the rod, and
wherein the external threads extend proximally from the distal end of the rod.
13 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 12 , wherein the knob comprises a material distinct from the rod to reduce galling between the internal threads and the external threads.
14 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 8 , wherein the bracket comprises a curvature of 20 to 25 degrees, 25 to 30 degrees, or 30 to 35 degrees.
15 . A spondylolisthesis reduction system for repositioning a displaced vertebra, comprising:

a second curved bracket configured to be placed over a second vertebral part of the displaced vertebra, the second curved bracket comprising a second opening enabling posterior access to the second vertebral part of the displaced vertebra,
wherein the first curved bracket and the second curved bracket are configured to contact an external back surface of a patient;
a first rod configured to be received though the first opening, the first rod having a first distal end for insertion into the first vertebral part; and
a second rod configured to be received through the second opening, the second rod having a second distal end for insertion into the second vertebral part,
wherein pulling one of the first rod or the second rod posteriorly repositions the displaced vertebra.
16 . The spondylolisthesis reduction system of claim 15 , further comprising:
