Global headlamp
Systems, methods, and controllers for a global headlamp. An example method includes obtaining configuration information indicative of a jurisdiction and a vehicle model associated with a vehicle. Headlamp state information is generated based on the vehicle model and jurisdiction. A propagation is output via a pixelated light source in a headlamp of the vehicle, the propagation representing a particular beam pattern which is compliant with the jurisdiction.
1 . A computer-implemented method, the method performed by a headlamp controller included in a vehicle, the headlamp controller configured to control a headlamp of the vehicle, and the method comprising:
obtaining configuration information indicative of a jurisdiction associated with the vehicle;
generating headlamp state information based at least in part on the jurisdiction as indicated by the configuration information, the headlamp state information comprising an activation pattern of emissive elements of a pixelated light source in the headlamp, the activation pattern being selected from a plurality of activation patterns including:
a first activation pattern associated with a first jurisdiction, the first activation pattern comprising activation of emissive elements in at least a first row and second row but no activation of emissive elements in a third row of the pixelated light source; and
a second activation pattern associated with a second jurisdiction, the second activation pattern comprising activation of emissive elements in at least the first row but no activation of emissive elements in the second row or third row of the pixelated light source; and
causing output, via the pixelated light source in the headlamp, of a propagation based on the headlamp state information, the propagation representing a particular beam pattern which is compliant with the jurisdiction,
the pixelated light source comprising at least the first row second row, and third row of emissive elements.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first activation pattern or the second activation pattern is selected as the activation pattern based on the jurisdiction.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each row comprises at least 22 emissive elements.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of activation patterns are stored in respective look up tables, wherein the look up tables define a plurality of luminous intensity values corresponding to a plurality of pixels of the pixelated light source, each pixel corresponding to one or more of the emissive elements of the pixelated light source.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the headlamp state information is associated with a high-beam or low-beam propagation.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the pixelated light source comprises a contiguous array of emissive elements extending substantially across a front of the vehicle to provide the propagation for both a left side and a right side of the vehicle.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the propagation is generated via light being output from only a subset of the emissive elements, a further subset of the emissive elements not outputting light.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
detecting a fault state of the headlamp; and
in response to determining that the headlamp can continue to output the propagation in compliance with the jurisdiction in the fault state, continuing to operate the headlamp.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the pixelated light source is configured to be used in association with a plurality of vehicle models to output propagations which are compliant with a plurality of jurisdictions.
10 . A system of a vehicle for propagating light that complies with requirements of multiple jurisdictions, comprising:
a headlamp comprising a pixelated light source, the pixelated light source comprising at least a first row, second row, and third row of emissive elements; and
a controller to control the pixelated light source to output propagations representing particular beam patterns, the headlamp being configured to generate a plurality of beam patterns which are compliant with a plurality of jurisdictions,
the plurality of beam patterns comprising:
a first beam pattern associated with a first jurisdiction, the first beam pattern being generated by activation of emissive elements in at least the first row and second row but no activation of emissive elements in the third row of the pixelated light source; and
a second beam pattern associated with a second jurisdiction, the second beam pattern comprising activation of emissive elements in at least the first row but no activation of emissive elements in the second row or third row of the pixelated light source.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the controller controls the headlamp to generate the first beam pattern or the second beam pattern based on a jurisdiction associated with the vehicle.
12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein each row comprises at least 22 emissive elements.
13 . The system of claim 10 , further comprising:
a memory storing:
headlamp state information for a plurality of jurisdictions; and
a selection of a current jurisdiction; and
a controller that:
reads the selected current jurisdiction;
reads the headlamp state information associated with the selected jurisdiction; and
controls the pixelated light source to output the propagations based on the headlamp state information associated with the selected jurisdiction, the propagations representing particular beam patterns which are compliant with the jurisdiction.
14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the headlamp state information associated with the selected jurisdiction is further associated with a high-beam or low-beam propagation.
15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the pixelated light source comprises a contiguous array of emissive elements extending substantially across a front of the vehicle to provide propagations of light for both a left side and a right side of the vehicle.
16 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the propagation is generated via light being output from only a subset of the plurality of emissive elements, a further subset of the emissive elements not outputting light.
17 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the pixelated light source comprises one or more emissive elements to emit light outside of the human-visible spectrum for outputting a further propagation for use by an autonomous operation function of the vehicle.
18 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the pixelated light source is configured to be used in association with a plurality of vehicle models to output propagations which are compliant with the plurality of jurisdictions.
19 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the pixelated light source comprises a printed circuit board, the emissive elements of the pixelated light source being mounted to the printed circuit board.
20 . A headlamp controller included in a vehicle, the headlamp controller controlling a headlamp of the vehicle, and the headlamp controller comprising one or more processing elements which are configured to:
obtain configuration information indicative of a jurisdiction associated with the vehicle;
generate headlamp state information based at least in part on the jurisdiction as indicated by the configuration information, the headlamp state information comprising an activation pattern of emissive elements of a pixelated light source in the headlamp, the activation pattern being selected from a plurality of activation patterns including:
a first activation pattern associated with a first jurisdiction, the first activation pattern comprising activation of emissive elements in at least a first row and second row but no activation of emissive elements in a third row of the pixelated light source; and
a second activation pattern associated with a second jurisdiction, the second activation pattern comprising activation of emissive elements in at least the first row but no activation of emissive elements in the second row or third row of the pixelated light source; and
cause output, via the pixelated light source in the headlamp, of a propagation based on the headlamp state information, the propagation representing a particular beam pattern which is compliant with the jurisdiction, the pixelated light source comprising at least the first row, second row, and third row of emissive elements.
