Abstract

A landing platform for a base station that is configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The landing platform includes: alignment members that are configured for engagement with the UAV; drive brackets that are connected to the alignment members; and a drive member that is connected to the drive brackets such that the drive brackets extend between and connect the alignment members and the drive member, whereby movement of the drive member causes corresponding movement of the drive brackets and the alignment members to thereby reposition the UAV on the landing platform.

Claims (36)

1 . A landing platform for a base station configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the landing platform comprises:

a single pair of alignment members configured for engagement with the UAV, wherein the alignment members are confined to movement along an axis extending in generally parallel relation to a width of the landing platform;

drive brackets connected to the alignment members; and

a drive member connected to the drive brackets such that the drive brackets extend between and connect the alignment members and the drive member, whereby movement of the drive member causes corresponding movement of the drive brackets and the alignment members to thereby reposition the UAV on the landing platform, wherein the drive brackets include:

first ends connected to the drive member; and

second ends opposite the first ends and connected to the alignment members, wherein the first ends and the second ends extend in generally orthogonal relation to each other.

2 . The landing platform of claim 1 , wherein the first ends include first openings configured to receive first fasteners such that the first fasteners facilitate connection of the drive member to the drive brackets.

3 . The landing platform of claim 2 , wherein the second ends include second openings configured to receive second fasteners such that the second fasteners extend through the drive brackets and into the alignment members.

4 . The landing platform of claim 3 , wherein the second openings extend in generally orthogonal relation to the first openings.

5 . The landing platform of claim 1 , wherein the first ends include grooves configured to receive the drive member such that the drive member extends into the drive brackets.

6 . The landing platform of claim 5 , wherein the grooves extend in generally parallel relation to a length of the drive member.

7 . The landing platform of claim 5 , further including:

retainers extending between and connecting the drive brackets and the drive member.

8 . The landing platform of claim 7 , wherein the retainers overlie the drive member.

9 . The landing platform of claim 8 , wherein the retainers span the grooves.

10 . A landing platform for a base station configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the landing platform comprises:

a drive member;

a single pair of alignment members movable by the drive member such that the landing platform is reconfigurable from a first configuration into a second configuration to thereby generally center the UAV on the landing platform, wherein the alignment members are confined to movement along an axis extending in generally parallel relation to a width of the landing platform; and

drive brackets extending between and connecting the drive member and the alignment members such that movement of the drive member causes corresponding movement of the drive brackets and the alignment members, wherein the drive member extends into the drive brackets.

11 . The landing platform of claim 10 , wherein the drive brackets include:

first ends connected to the drive member; and

second ends connected to the alignment members.

12 . The landing platform of claim 11 , wherein the first ends include first openings configured to receive first fasteners facilitating connection of the drive member to the drive brackets.

13 . The landing platform of claim 12 , wherein the second ends include second openings configured to receive second fasteners such that the second fasteners extend through the drive brackets and into the alignment members.

14 . The landing platform of claim 13 , wherein the second openings extend in generally orthogonal relation to the first openings.

15 . A landing platform for a base station configured to receive an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), wherein the landing platform comprises:

a stage configured to receive the UAV;

alignment members configured for engagement with the UAV, wherein the alignment members are movable in relation to the stage from an extended position into a retracted position to thereby generally align a power source on the UAV with a charging hub of the base station;

a drive member positioned beneath the stage; and

drive brackets extending between and connecting the alignment members and the drive member such that movement of the drive member repositions the alignment members from the extended position into the retracted position, wherein the drive brackets include:

opposite ends connected to the drive member and the alignment members, wherein the opposite ends extend in generally orthogonal relation to each other.

16 . The landing platform of claim 15 , wherein the drive brackets include grooves configured to receive the drive member such that the drive member extends into the drive brackets.

17 . The landing platform of claim 16 , wherein the grooves extend in generally parallel relation to a length of the drive member.

18 . The landing platform of claim 16 , further including:

retainers extending between and connecting the drive brackets and the drive member, wherein the retainers overlie the drive member.

19 . The landing platform of claim 18 , wherein the retainers span the grooves.
