Abstract

A concealed fastening system suitable for securing a cladding element to a substrate may include a receiver comprising a base section and side sections extending from the base section such that a central cavity is formed, each side section comprising a hook remote from the base section; and a rail comprising a base element and side arms extending from the base element. The rail may seat within the central cavity of the receiver such that the side arms of the rail abut the hook of the receiver. In use, either the receiver or the rail may attach to a substrate and the other of the receiver or rail connects to a cladding element. The system optionally further comprises a bracket to which an adaptor plate is attached. In use, the bracket and adaptor plate may be seated between the substrate and either of the receiver or rail.

Claims (73)

1 . A concealed fastening system suitable for securing a cladding element to a substrate comprising:

a receiver comprising:

a base section configured to mount to a cladding element or a substrate;

a plurality of side sections extending from the base section to form a cavity between the base section and the plurality of side sections, each side section comprising:

a first projection extending from the base section at a first angle α; and

a second projection spaced from the base section and extending from the first projection at a second angle β, the second projection comprising a protrusion spaced from the first projection; and

a rail comprising:

a base element configured to mount to a cladding element or a substrate; and

a plurality of side arms extending from the base element, each side arm comprising:

a first flange extending orthogonally from the base element;

a second flange spaced from the base element and extending orthogonally remote from the first flange in a direction away from the base element;

a third flange spaced from the first flange and extending orthogonally from the second flange; and

a fourth flange spaced from the second flange and extending at a third angle δ from the third flange such that the fourth flanges of each side arm extend towards each other,

wherein the rail seats at least partially within the cavity of the receiver such that each side arm of the rail engages at least one of the protrusions of the side sections of the receiver, wherein a width of the rail is equivalent to a sum of the widths of the base element and each of the second flanges.

2 . A concealed fastening system suitable for securing a cladding element to a substrate comprising:

a receiver comprising:

a base section configured to mount to a cladding element or a substrate;

a plurality of side sections extending from the base section to form a cavity between the base section and the plurality of side sections, each side section comprising:

a first projection extending from the base section at a first angle α; and

a second projection spaced from the base section and extending from the first projection at a second angle β, the second projection comprising a protrusion spaced from the first projection;

a rail comprising:

a base element configured to mount to a cladding element or a substrate; and

a plurality of side arms extending from the base element, each side arm comprising:

a first flange extending orthogonally from the base element;

a second flange spaced from the base element and extending orthogonally from the first flange;

a third flange spaced from the first flange and extending orthogonally from the second flange;

a fourth flange spaced from the second flange and extending at a third angle δ from the third flange such that the fourth flanges of each side arm extend towards each other,

wherein the rail seats at least partially within the cavity of the receiver such that each side arm of the rail engages at least one of the protrusions of the side sections of the receiver;

a bracket comprising:

a first plate; and

a second plate extending orthogonally from the first plate and configured to attach to the substrate; and

an adaptor plate comprising:

a main plate configured to attach to the first plate of the bracket; and

a secondary plate extending orthogonally from the main plate and configured to attach to the receiver or the rail.

3 . The concealed fastening system of claim 2 , wherein the third angle δ is between 92° and 160°.
