Locking apparatuses and a method of providing access control
Locking apparatuses and methods are provided for controlling access to a space using an improved locking apparatus. Provided are apparatuses, systems, and methods for providing lockdown control a protected area, such as a classroom or other area, where a single input may be provided to place one or more locking apparatuses in a lockdown state.
1 . An access restriction apparatus for restricting access through an entryway, the access restriction apparatus comprising:
a bracket configured to be coupleable to at least a portion of the entryway; and
a locking apparatus configured to be coupled to the bracket within a channel of the bracket, the locking apparatus including,
a body;
a command module;
an actuator;
a translation member, at least a portion of the translation member configured to move relative to the body to place the locking apparatus in a locked position, the translation member comprising a contact surface configured to restrict movement of a door of the entryway, wherein the translation member comprises a lifting member configured to be raised to a raised position corresponding to the locked position and lowered to a lowered position corresponding to an unlocked position; and
a translation position controller configured to receive a lockdown command via the command module and to cause the actuator to position the translation member and the locking apparatus in the locked position, the locked position being associated with the lockdown command.
2 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the bracket is coupleable to the door of the entryway and to the locking apparatus.
3 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the bracket comprises a plurality of mount sections, a first mount section of the plurality of mount sections coupleable to the door of the entryway and a second mount section of the plurality of mount sections coupleable to a frame of the entryway.
4 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the access restriction apparatus is configured to restrict movement of the door of the entryway in an inward direction relative to a protected area.
5 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the first mount section is coupled to a first side of the door located associated with the protected area, and wherein the second mount section is coupled to at least one of a frame of the entryway or location adjacent thereto.
6 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 5 , where the locking apparatus is coupled to the first mount section and is configured to restrict movement of the door in a direction of the protected area by causing the contact surface of the translation member to be placed in contact with at least a portion of the second mount section.
7 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the access restriction apparatus is configured to restrict movement of the door of the entryway in an outward direction relative to a protected area.
8 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 7 , where the translation member is configured to contact at least one of the door or a bumper coupled to the door when the locking apparatus is operating in the locked position and an attempt is made to open the door.
9 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a manual operation button configured to cause the locking apparatus to perform at least one of a locking operations, an unlocking operation, and an alert condition.
10 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a communication module configured to enable communication with at least one of another locking apparatus and a control system via one or more communication paths.
11 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the raised position has a proximal side of the lifting member elevated relative to a distal side of the lifting member.
12 . The access restriction apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the lifting member is configured to be placed in contact with at least one cam connected to a shaft, the at least one cam configured to rotate to elevate the lifting member to a predetermined angle relative to a surface upon which the locking apparatus is mounted.
