Abstract

Methods and systems for remote check deposit are disclosed. A check for deposit is processed without the need for a server to receive any image of the check initially. Instead, optical character recognition (OCR) data is received at the server from a mobile device. Verification processing for the check is then performed using the OCR data. If the verification process is successful, a confirmation notification is sent to the mobile device. Subsequently, after sending the confirmation notification, a check image is received, from which the OCR data was determined. The check is, in turn, processed for deposit using the received check image.

Claims (73)

1 . A method for processing an object, the method comprising:

without having a server receive any image of the object to be processed:

receiving, at the server and from a mobile device, optical character recognition data related to the object that was verified by the mobile device to include required predetermined object data;

performing first verification processing for the object using the received optical character recognition data and without using a front image of the object from which the optical character recognition data was determined;

determining that the first verification processing passes; and

responsive to the first verification processing passing, sending a first notification to the mobile device;

after sending the first notification to the mobile device:

receiving the front image of the object from which the optical character recognition data was determined, wherein the front image is temporally the first of any image of the front of the object to be received by the server from the mobile device; and

receiving a back image of the object, wherein the back image is temporally the first of any image of the back of the object to be received by the server from the mobile device;

after receiving the front image and the back image, performing second processing on the object using the received front image of the object; and

responsive to performing the second processing on the object using the received front image of the object, sending a second notification to the mobile device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting at least a portion of the front image or an image derived from the front image to a user for a first time only after the object is processed.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an indication that the optical character recognition data was modified; and

responsive to the indication, causing manual review after receiving the second processing.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first verification processing includes:

performing duplication detection using the optical character recognition data.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first verification processing includes:

performing fraud detection using the optical character recognition data.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

performing additional verification on the front image.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the additional verification includes:

determining whether the object was modified by a recipient.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

posting a memo on an account showing data regarding the processed object.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an account identification number from the mobile device only after sending the first notification.

10 . The method of claim 1 ,

wherein performing the second processing includes using the back image.

11 . A system comprising:

a server configured to:

without having received any image of a particular object to be processed:

receive, at a server and from a remote device, optical character recognition data associated with a front of the particular object that was verified by the remote device to include required predetermined object data;

perform first verification processing for the particular object using the received optical character recognition data and without using a front image of the object from which the optical character recognition data was determined;

determine that the first verification processing passes;

responsive to the first verification processing passing, send a first notification to the remote device; and

after sending the first notification to the remote device:

receive the front image of the object from which the optical character recognition data was determined, wherein the front image is temporally the first of any image of the front of the object to be received by the server from the remote device; and

receive a back image of the object, wherein the back image is temporally the first of any image of the back of the object to be received by the server from the remote device;

after receiving the front and the back images of the object, perform second processing on the object using at least the received front image of the object; and

responsive to performing the second processing, sending a second notification to the remote device.

12 . The system of claim 11 ,

wherein the server is configured to:

receive the optical character recognition data in a first communication file; and

receive the check image in a second communication file separate from the first communication file.

13 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising:

the remote device, wherein the remote device is configured to:

capture the front image with an image capture device of the remote device; and

after capturing the front image and without sending any image of the particular object to the server:

perform optical character recognition on the front image to generate the optical character recognition data; and

send the optical character recognition data to the server;

receive the first notification;

after receiving the first notification, send front and back images of the object to the server; and

after sending the images to the server, receiving the second notification.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the performing of the optical character recognition, sending of the optical character recognition data, receiving the confirmation notification, and sending the image to the server are performed without showing the front image to a user.

15 . The system of claim 13 ,

wherein the remote device is configured to provide an object representation image to a user; and

wherein the object representation image is not the front image and is not the back image.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein to capture the object image includes to capture the object image responsive to receiving manual user actuation.

17 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the remote device is configured to present at least a portion of the object image or an image derived from the object image to a user for a first time only after the second processing is performed.

18 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the remote device is configured to send an identification number from the remote device to the server only after receiving a user confirmation from the user in response to a request for confirmation from the user to perform the second processing.

19 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions thereon that, when executed by one or more processors cause the one or more processors to:

without having received any image of a particular object to be processed:

receive, at a server and from a remote device, optical character recognition data associated with a front of the particular object that was verified by the remote device to include required predetermined object data;

perform first verification processing for the particular object using the received optical character recognition data and without using a front image of the object from which the optical character recognition data was determined;

determine that the first verification processing passes; and

responsive to the first verification processing passing, send a first notification to the remote device; and

after sending the first notification to the remote device:

receive the front image of the object from which the optical character recognition data was determined, wherein the front image is temporally the first of any image of the front of the object to be received by the server from the remote device; and

receive a back image of the object, wherein the back image is temporally the first of any image of the back of the object to be received by the server from the remote device;

after receiving the front and the back images of the object, perform second processing on the object using at least the received front image of the object; and

responsive to performing the second processing, sending a second notification to the remote device.
