Abstract

This disclosure includes techniques for controlling smart home devices upon entering a home with a fingerprint sensor in a doorbell device. After capturing a fingerprint of a digit of a guest and sending the fingerprint to a server device, the server device matches the fingerprint of the digit to an entry in a guest fingerprint database for a first user. The server device sends an operational command to a smart home device separate from the doorbell device and located at a same premises as the doorbell device. In response to receiving the operational command from the server device, the smart home device performs an action corresponding to the operational command.

Claims (49)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, via a sensor associated with an entry point of a location, a request to gain access to entry to the location, the request provided by a user;

identifying, based on the request, a digital representation of the user;

identifying, based at least on the digital representation of the user, a profile of the user, the profile comprising an indication of an association of the user with the location;

analyzing the request based on the profile, and determining a manner of access for the user;

providing, via the sensor of the entry point at the location, an output, the output controlling whether the user is able to gain access to entry to the location; and

providing, based on the provided output and the manner of access, customized functionality of a device for the user gaining entry to the location, the functionality of the device corresponding to a purpose of the user's gained entry, the device being within the location and separate from a device used for entry to the location.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the association of the user corresponds to a type of user, the type being a guest or family member.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

determining, based on the type of the user, a type of output for the sensor to output; and

causing the type of output to be output in connection with the provided output.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the output comprises an unlock command.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the output comprises control of at least a set of devices at the location, the control based on the profile of the user.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the provided output comprises a tone that corresponds to the type of user.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the profile of the user based on the request, the request comprising a fingerprint provided to the sensor.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a set of cameras at the location; and

causing, based on the provided output, the set of security cameras to monitor the activity of the user upon entry to the location.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation of the user is captured via a camera associated with the location.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is associated with a doorbell.

11 . A device comprising:

a processor configured to:

receive, via a sensor associated with an entry point of a location, a request to gain access to entry to the location, the request provided by a user;

identify, based on the request, a digital representation of the user;

identifying, based at least on the digital representation of the user, a profile of the user, the profile comprising an indication of an association of the user with the location;

analyze the request based on the profile, and determine a manner of access for the user;

provide, via the sensor of the entry point at the location, an output, the output controlling whether the user is able to gain access to entry to the location; and

providing, based on the provided output and the manner of access, customized functionality of a device for the user gaining entry to the location, the functionality of the device corresponding to a purpose of the user's gained entry, the device being within the location and separate from a device used for entry to the location.

12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the association of the user corresponds to a type of user, the type being a guest or family member.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the type of the user, a type of output for the sensor to output; and

cause the type of output to be output in connection with the provided output.

14 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the output comprises an unlock command.

15 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the output comprises control of at least a set of devices at the location, the control based on the profile of the user.

16 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the provided output comprises a tone that corresponds to the type of user.

17 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determining the profile of the user based on the request, the request comprising a fingerprint provided to the sensor.

18 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is configured to:

identifying a set of cameras at the location; and

causing, based on the provided output, the set of security cameras to monitor the activity of the user upon entry to the location.

19 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the digital representation of the user is captured via a camera associated with the location.

20 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium tangibly encoded with computer-executable instructions, that when executed by a device, perform a method comprising:

receiving, via a sensor associated with an entry point of a location, a request to gain access to entry to the location, the request provided by a user;

identifying, based on the request, a digital representation of the user;

identifying, based at least on the digital representation of the user, a profile of the user, the profile comprising an indication of an association of the user with the location;

analyzing the request based on the profile, and determining a manner of access for the user;

providing, via the sensor of the entry point at the location, an output, the output controlling whether the user is able to gain access to entry to the location; and

providing, based on the provided output and the manner of access, customized functionality of a device for the user gaining entry to the location, the functionality of the device corresponding to a purpose of the user's gained entry, the device being within the location and separate from a device used for entry to the location.
